I have confirmed that this is a serious bug in Money 2004 Deluxe. I ranQIF > format but rather > IN MONEY 2004 DELUXE ITSELF! Standard Repair on my MNY file, and it found no errors. I then exported a QIF of the particular problematic investment. Next, I created a brand-new MNY file, imported the previous QIF, and then entered the problematic transaction, manually. A click of Account Summary then crashes Money catastrophically. We'll see if Microsoft is willing to do anything about this, though. |

OK, I think I've narrowed down the problem. Mercifully, I found a different> news:X4WUb.1437$PY.106[at]newssvr26.news.prodigy.com... > > HELP! backup file from the last time Money worked properly, earlier today. I then redid my changes one by one. I first narrowed down the problem to the QIF, then to a particular transaction in the QIF; then I duplicated the problem by entering the transaction manually. Thus, the problem lies not in the QIF format but rather IN MONEY 2004 DELUXE ITSELF! Specifically, I start out with an investment account which includes a mutual fund in the amount of 19979.927 shares--or so Money tells me. But when I enter a transaction to sell all I own of that mutual fund, Money informs me that, contrary to the Account Summary, I actually own only 19979.9269 shares of the mutual fund, and do I want to sell exactly that much? I say OK. Things look calm unless/until I either look again at the Account Summary, or close and reopen Money. Either way, Money crashes catastrophically. The bottom line is that Money has a serious bug in the fourth decimal place. Apparently some parts of Money do keep track of the fourth decimal place, but others don't, and the result is a contradiction that blows up the program! So I don't know what to do now. Does this mean that I have to enter every investment transaction manually, checking to see if the Account Summary blows up? This is crazy. Keep in mind that ordinarily, I download QIF files from Fidelity; it is Fidelity that apparently records the fourth decimal place in its transactions. Simply rounding to the third decimal place is not an option unless I want to enter all transactions manually. |

| Lawrence, I'm having a sim. problem. I'm being forced to move from Money 2000 to 2004 Delux. After install (several attempts mind you) Money 2004 immed. crashes when I try and open, import or restore the data from Money 2000. I've reinstalled 2000 and was successful in restoring the back-up. I also called MS today and they had no idea why it was doing this... running on XP... - quote - > -----Original Message----- > "Lawrence G. Is there a way to "clean" the latest Money file so that Money can open itwithout crashing? |

| HELP! I was working in Money. Among other things I loaded a QIF, which as you know forces Money to make an immediate backup. When I finished working, I closed Money. A short while later I opened Money, and it immediate crashed! I tried opening Money without online support, and it still crashed! I tried opening the backup (made so shortly before), and it crashed too--both with and without online support! I can open a 3-week-old backup, but three weeks of work is a lot to lose! I have been synchronizing with MSN Money. Is there a way to tell Money to bring down all the transactions from MSN Money newer than what is in the 3-week-old version? This is so disastrous! |
