| Create an income subcategory called "Misc.Non-taxable" and don't associate this category with any line item on any tax form and use this "catch-call" category to cover all deposits to your checking that are not taxable income. | Dear Paul, Why don't you open an asset account called (say) "Sundry Debtors". Then, when you come back from WalMart you pass a debit entry over your cash or checking account showing WalMart as the payee. This is NOT expenditure as far as you are concerned personally so DO NOT categorise it as such. Treat it as a Transfer to Sundry Debtors. As and when you are reimbursed by the person(s) for whom you had bought the item then you will pass a credit entry to Cash or your bank account (as relevant) and again treat it as a Transfer to Sundry Debtors. This should do the trick ! Regards, AJM "Paul" <anonymous[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:b5b301c3ec65$d19d12d0$a001280a[at]phx.gbl... - quote - > Hello... | You are inferring that Income in Money equates to Taxable Income with the IRS. There is no basis for this. Money Tax Estimator, for instance, does not make this inference. There are many ways to have Income in Money that is not Taxable Income with the IRS. So, your two choices: 1) Get over the worry. Tell your tax preparer that your income is really what's on W-2s and 1098/9s, etc. Don't depend on the Money data without knowing how to interpret it. 2) You can always just put in a credit against the original expense category. If Money complains about Income in an Expense category, tell it to get over it. | Hello... I have a question that I haven't been able to get answered in Money 2004 Deluxe's Help Files. Every so often, I go out and purchase something for my parents or brother or someone else that they asked me to get because I just happened to be at the store and they weren't. After I purchase the item(s), I bring them back to them and they usually give me cash or write me a check to reimburse me for the purchase price. The ammounts from each person doesn't normally ammount to more than $400- $500 per person in a years time. My problem comes when adding the transactions and reimbursements to money. Lets say I purchased something from walmart for $100, I add that transaction into money as an expense catergory that I specially set aside for stuff that will be reimbursed. Well a few days later I get a check reimbursing me for the purchase, I deposit it into my checking account and than list it in Microsoft Money. However, there is no way in Money, that I know of, to make it non-income. When tax time comes and I want to print out my income, expenses, etc. to take to my tax preparer, It shows I have and extra $1000 of income that isn't actually Income! I do however list it in a special reimbursement catergory, however it must still be under "INCOME" in Money. Is there any place in Money that I can prevent it from showing up as Income? I don't report it and my CPA told me I don't have to, providing I don't get more than a certain ammount from one person in a year, however It is a nuissance when estimating and preparing the files for her. I hope there is a way around this. Thanks in advance, Paul |
