Well, there is another way. Create an asset account associated with
the loan with an initial balance equal to the loan. Then transfer
that balance to the checking account. Normally you would only do
that if you used the Business version, which requires a category.
However you could do that if the easy way disturbs you too much.

See? I figured it was a very simple answer. This is what
I already did. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a

What?! No no no... Enter it as a "transfer". I do this all the time and I
have no problems with it.

Enter a Deposit with no Category, but enter a Memo that it is the
loan proceeds.

Default Personal Loan Set-up

I've searched the archives in this group to no avail. I
bet the answer is so simple, that I'll kick myself for
even asking, but...

I'm trying to set up a personal loan of $1,000. The money
was placed in my checking account.

When I set up the loan, it makes just that. A loan. How
do I get the money into my checking account.
