From the search results, View-> Detailed will let you see the dates. Clicking the Date header will sort by date? Which one is newest? |

| Cal, I got my computer in 99 so I do not have a CD burner. When I used Money in the past, I automatically backed up to hard drive and to floppy once a day, with the prompt me first.I thought that I was safe by having 3 backup files on floppy, but I wasn't. The first thing that I did when 2004 restored my files was to print out a years worth of info from my account so that I would have it on paper to refer to in case something else went wrong in the future. My husband is going to get Money 2004 for his computer that has XP. That way if one computer crashes like this one did, we will have the other one to use. I will print out you suggestions for use with his system. Why is it that 2004 would restore from my floppy and no other version of Money would with out the corrupt, password or invalid file path errors? What does 2004 have that made this possible over other versions? Thanks again - quote - > -----Original Message----- > In microsoft.public.money, Greycats2 wrote: > > > I did download the trial version of Money 2004 and my > > backup file from floppy loaded instantly without a hitch. > > Thank you very much for helping me. > I am glad you are back in business. > This would be a good time to review your backup strategy. > In Tools-> Options-> Backup I suggest checking > x Automatically backup to hard disk on exit > x Prompt me before backing up each time* > x Make my file small ... > Then periodically, perhaps once per month or more, copy your > latest backup (named differently from your earlier backups) to a > CDR. I am glad you are back in business.> backup file from floppy loaded instantly without a hitch. > Thank you very much for helping me. This would be a good time to review your backup strategy. In Tools-> Options-> Backup I suggest checking x Automatically backup to hard disk on exit x Prompt me before backing up each time* x Make my file small ... Then periodically, perhaps once per month or more, copy your latest backup (named differently from your earlier backups) to a CDR. With XP, this can be a copy and paste operation. Otherwise use the burning software that came with your CDR drive. I suggest use of a USB Flash drive also. They typically act like a big floppy. * This has two advantages. You can change the file name occasionally. I like to pick a name something like money030828. Then it is easy to change the name to have multiple backups. The ..mbf extension is automatic. The other advantage is that you can choose "Don't Back Up, or you change your mind about exiting by simply clicking the X in the upper right of the pop-up box. |

On the one that complains about the folder, Browse to your My Documents folder rather than taking the default destination. I don't know when the ability to have an earlier version of Money started, but I don't think you can have 99 and 2000 together. And if Money 2000 says there is a password when there is not, I am pretty sure Money 99 will not read the file either. I would try Money 2004 if I were you. Install the trial to a different folder. That can coexist with Money 2000. |

| Dal I hope that you get this message you have given me advice before. I had tired to restore an account from Floppy to money 2000. I was told that i needed a passpord, whick a password cracker confirmed taht I did not ever have a password before, and on another floppy an Invalid file path error message.I tried to restore the backup file to my documents and that ididn't work. I have tried to open the floppy on Money 2002 to no avail. I was just sure that i had created this account in Money 2000, but my husband says that maybe we did create the account in the Money 99 from Works Suite 99. If that is the case, the file transfered the first time, but I know that i did download update for Money and Works suite 99 before I transfered the Money files to 2000. Is it possible to install the money 99 on my computer and not have a conflict with 2000 to see if 99 will open the saved file? any other thoughts that you have will be appreciated as always. as you can see I haven't given up on problem yet....... |
