| These seem to be some fundamentals you don't get here. <anonymous[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:7bad01c3e8ff$e8fa5410$a101280a[at]phx.gbl... - quote - > You are missing the point. I need it to back up to floppy

You broke it, now fix it. backup to, say, my MemoryStick on exit just fine. Have you tried to browse the file tree here to see if your key shows up here or would you rather just complain at those of us who can't do anything to change the way Money works? - quote - > I can and have blocked MS Money's access to the internet
Money does "control itself" just fine. It doesn't go get anything from the> with Zone Alarm Pro. I should have the option to block > access within MS Money. Why should it need another setting like Tools|Options|Connection|Even if I tell you to get information from the Internet, don't do it? And why do you think Money connecting to the Internet to get whatever it is that you didn't intend to tell it to get is more of a "safety" hazard than having your computer connected to the Internet at all? That's pretty illogical. If you don't trust Money in the first place, whatever makes you think you could trust a switch named Tools|Options|Connection|Even if I tell you to get information from the Internet, don't do it? If you fundamentally don't trust the product, by all means don't use it! See http://www.bollar.org/msmoney/#Q66 if you really want to do something that ***might*** get the product changed in future versions. Ranting here won't get it done, that's for sure. I've been lobbying for some things here since there was first a newsgroup. I know. |

| Good Day Cal, Thank You for your quick response; but... You are missing the point. I need it to back up to floppy (USB Key) upon exiting the program. The older versions of MS Money would prompt you to back up, allow you to set the path and verify that you wanted to overwright the previous file. This was a fluid process that reminded me to insert my USB key, backup, and protect my data somewhere other than my internal hard drive. What is the point of having the software save a backup to the internal hard drive? Everyone who has even the smallest bit of information recovery training knows you need to save your data outside of the box. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. You broke it, now fix it. I can and have blocked MS Money's access to the internet with Zone Alarm Pro. I should have the option to block access within MS Money. What is the point of needing more software to control software that isn't written to control itself. My requests stand due to their logical, common sence grounding in reality. | I count that as having told Money to connect. But then I understand how some of this stuff works. | Money only connects to the Internet when you tell it to. I wouldn't be unhappy about that, were I you. Millions of Money users allow Money and dozens of other pieces of software to interact with the Internet with relative safety. Nothing is 100% safe. You can die in your sleep. p.s., we DON'T work here. You could set the Tools-> Options-> Backup to Automatically back up to> floppy (USB Memory key) upon exit like the older versions > of Money? > 1. | I originally believed that today was a good day. I've upgraded to MS Money 2004 Standard and now I am unhappy. 1. Would you please update the software to allow users to "Completely Block All Internet Access" within the Options? Or show me how I can do this within the software. 2. Would you plese allow me the option to backup to floppy (USB Memory key) upon exit like the older versions of Money? 1. Explained: I don't want my copy of Money to even believe it is possible to be connected to the internet. Who out there can guarentee me 100% (Nothing less, not even 99.99%) Safety. Allowing this software to interact with the internet is NOT safe. I did not purchase this software to "Enhance my Internet Experience", I purchased it to improve my personal accounting of my money. 2. Explained: My original version of MS Money would allow me to back up to floppy upon exit. Money 2004 will only back up to Hard Drive upon exit. You have limited its functions instead of improving them. I want to be able to plug in my USB Memory key and backup as I exit when I feel it is necessary. Sincerely, Stan |
