Well.... Money 2004 has the same issue with the file. It asks me to make
sure the file isn't read only. Do you know of any companies that work on
restoring these files? It's not a huge deal, because I can download from
my bank. Just a pain, because I've got all those categories, etc setup.

Just can't understand why something as important as your finances are not
backed up.

Have you tried the salv.exe file......it might work. Do a search for it and
double click it and then follow the prompts.

Money is an excellent program with the exception of "stability" for many
users. I strongly suggest you start backing up

Lets hope. There is a newer version of salv.exe that is part of the
Money 2004 install FYI.

A batch file that keeps a month-old and week-old backup would be
nice. I burn backups onto a CD about every three weeks.

Those USB Flash drives are nice... appear as a big floppy.

Reviewed. I've used Money for a few years now and I've never had a
problem. Survived moving between machines, versions, etc.

Tried the utility and it says that there are no broken records.
Coincidently, Money seems to botch up my system if I create a new file and
exit the program. I've got 2001, so It's time to try 2004. If it opens my
file, I'll forgo reinstalling and just get 2004.

7 years of working in technology support and I don't automate the
backup..... duh! Guess I don't take the same care that I do with the
people I support. Humbling.

You mean after seriously reviewing your backup strategy?

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;274584
describes salv.exe.

Default Corrupt Money File?

Hi,

I started Money a couple days ago and I got a message stating that my file
was corrupt. It said to use the msmoney -s "filename" option from a
command prompt. I did this and it still won't repair the file.
Unfortunatley, I don't have a current backup.

Any ideas on what else I could do? It says to call MS Technical Support.
How much would it cost to fix the file? Has anyone else been through this
before?

PS - It's Money 2001

Thanks
