That is history. I sold it ALL last year.> > -$3,001.50 cost > > ------------------ > > $84.98 gain / 3,001.50 = 2.83125% gain Let's just say I owned 100,000 of it and I had reinvested div of $5000. I then bought 85.831 shares . It cost me $3001.50. That's all that matters. | One other thing , if I select view 1 monthROI , 3month ROI, it does show 2.8% ROI in those columns ( both views for ShowADifferentView-> ShowClosedPositions show 2.8% for ROI return there). 1 yr shows 11.8% - both views. bobb "- Bobb -" <nospam87[at]netscape.net> wrote in message news:%23ktPe%23w2DHA.308[at]TK2MSFTNGP11.phx.gbl... - quote - > "Cal Learner-- MVP" <via_newsgroup[at]please.tnx> wrote in message > news:5ie9005jd436rv6f0qsiojnfd1ujgegdmo[at]4ax.com... > > In microsoft.public.money, - Bobb - wrote: > > > > > > I checked and I don't have "showed closed positions" checked. > > > When I said "realized gain", I meant it generically - not as a column, > > > sorry. > > > So if you check ShowADifferentView-> ShowClosedPositions, what > > happens to the gain column for that holding? So if you check ShowADifferentView-> ShowClosedPositions, what> When I said "realized gain", I meant it generically - not as a column, > sorry. happens to the gain column for that holding? And if you then un-check ShowADifferentView-> ShowClosedPositions, what happens? |

| Hi Cal, I checked and I don't have "showed closed positions" checked. When I said "realized gain", I meant it generically - not as a column, sorry. Here's an example of what I'm running into: I owned Fidelity Low-Priced stock fund for years. I rebalanced my portfoilio on 8/11/03 and it included selling my entire position in LP Stock Fund. I made good money on it - fine. That's history. Then they announced that it was closing again so on 12/29/03 I bought $3000 worth of it to reopen the position. Since then, it's gone up $59, yet the %gain column shows 83% gain. That is true if I include shares that I bought over the years and sold back in August, but on the new position, my gain is $59 / $3000 = 1.9667 % not 83%. I'd like it to show 1.9% . I could delete all the old info, but any way to do so easily in M2004 ? Thanks as always. I assume you are talking about the Portfolio views. Customize your> not care about "realized gain" from years ago. views to not display Realized Gain. But that is only part. - quote - > For Money, the basis seems to be
Then the important part: Uncheck> 1. add all the buys > 2. subtract all the sells > the difference is loss/gain. > But if I sold all of a stock/fund in 2002 and just recently bought it back, > I want my basis to be: what I paid for the stock/fund that I RECENTLY > bought and now hold - Period. > So regardless that I dollar-cost averaged every week for 3 years into x > shares of Fidelity Value Fund , if I sold it ALL and THEN later bought y > shares, my cost would be the price paid for the Y shares. How to do that ? ShowADifferentView-> ShowClosedPositions. Now the Gain column should not reflect the sold positions. |

| How to "not display" old info ? In my normal use of Money 2001,2004 , I do not care about "realized gain" from years ago. For Money, the basis seems to be 1. add all the buys 2. subtract all the sells the difference is loss/gain. But if I sold all of a stock/fund in 2002 and just recently bought it back, I want my basis to be: what I paid for the stock/fund that I RECENTLY bought and now hold - Period. So regardless that I dollar-cost averaged every week for 3 years into x shares of Fidelity Value Fund , if I sold it ALL and THEN later bought y shares, my cost would be the price paid for the Y shares. How to do that ? thanks, bobb |
