flagging duplicate checks and skipped checks

Tools-> Options-> DisplayAWarningWhenUsingDuplicateCheckNumbers

Is there any way to get money to flag duplicate checks
and skipped check numbers? I can't find anything about
this anywhere. Why wouldn't it do this automatically? I
am currently using 2003, maybe they fixed this in 2004.
Thanks for any help. I looked through the help stuff and
online and then figured I'd try this.
