| Some suggestions: Run System Restore (if your OS has this feature). "Illegal File Name" should mean that the file name you are trying to use either has characters that can not be used in file names OR that it is not compatible with the filing system used by your CD-Burning software (probably Joliet). Try a new CD--Have you considered seeing if this behavior is particular to just one CD or even a particular kind of CD disc (CD-R, CD-RW). Money doesn't have its own CD burning software. The CD burning software you have may have a problem requiring reinstallation or replacement, since you're having this problem with THAT software (I believe you're using different software to burn music CDs, right. A hardware problem is very unlikely--burring wouldn't work at all most likely if that was the case. I'm not sure this will help but it's worth checking these things out before we look at more serious issues. You can back up to a hard disk, and then burn that .mbf file onto> no help. Sorry for the attitude! your CDR by Copy/Paste in Windows Explorer. With Windows XP, you can also back up to the "hard disk" that corresponds to your CD/R drive. Browse to the drive from "My Computer". That will put the file onto a staging area on your hard drive. Consider modifying the backup file name to incorporate the date. - quote - > > -----Original Message----- > > In microsoft.public.money, Paul Smith wrote: > > > > What gives? | Sorry for the attitude but I tried other forums and I got no help from them so I tried here as a last resort. I just can't believe no ones ever had this problem before... | Perhaps not. Certainly the fact that you cannot save to this drive from the File Explorer indicates that the problem has nothing to do with Money, per se. This could be why people in this group are not dying to jump in to explain to you the meaning of writable CD drives when this is just the microsoft.public.money newsgroup, not microsoft.public.all_about_writable_cd_drives. I think you need to go understand some things about what writable CD drives are and are not. What they are not (generally) is regular old random access read/write drives like a hard disk or a floppy. They generally require specialized software to control how they are written to. I say generally twice here since packet writing software (DirectCD and InCD, to name the major players) can play pretend with the operating system to make it think these drives are random access read/write drives when that's not what they are. p.s., spare us the attitude. We don't work here. "Paul Smith" <anonymous[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:056f01c3db1d$a3db2b10$a601280a[at]phx.gbl... - quote - > What gives? I don't know. It sounds like an OS problem. Perhaps you described> question answered and I'm either ignored or led on a wild > goose chase. Can't anyone help me?!?! your OS and your CD writing software on some other threads. Perhaps you describe what you had tried already on some other threads. So perhaps nobody can help. Have you read what is in the FAQ on the backing up to a CD? - quote - > > -----Original Message----- > > when trying to save a backup copy to cd of my file with > > money 2003 like i've always done, it tells me its an > > illegal file name or the disk is write protected. when I > > browse to the latest backup on the disk it tells me i > > don't have permission to save in this directory, see the > > administrator.
