Thanks for the replies, that helped a lot.
I had completely missed the cash component of the investment account, which
was accessed from the menu on the left-hand side.

cheers

Buy is better.

Do a Sell of the old and a Buy of the new.

You don't say what vintage of Money you are using, but you probably
have the ability to switch between the Cash Transactions and the
Investment Transactions. When you sell, the money normally goes to
the cash account. When you buy the shares the money comes from your
Investment Transactions register.

You transfer money to and from the Investment Transactions register.

That has to do with transferring shares from one broker to another.

If it's just a mutual fund account with no cash component (how'd you put the
$5,000 into the account?), then you have two Buy transactions in the source
account for the money. If there is a cash component and you have setup the
investment account with a cash account and an investment account, Transfer
the $5,000 to the cash account and then Buy shares in FundA and FundB in the
investment account with the source of the cash being the investment account.

Do a sell then buy. Add/Remove shares are typically used for things
analagous to the "Account Adjustment" of a cash account out of balance that
you set to the bank's balance.

Just like you wrote it. Again, assuming a cash account, sell the shares in
the investment account and set the destination account for the sell to the
cash account, then transfer the money from the cash account to your checking
account or whatever in a transaction in the cash account. If no cash
account, sell the shares from the investment account and set the target for
the proceeds to you checking account or whatever.

Transfer In and Transfer Out are typically used when changing brokers and
transferring the investment holdings from one brokerage account to the
other.

Default help with entering data into Investment Accounts

Hello,

I'm quite confused on how I should enter data into my Investment Account (a
mutual fund account).

Suppose I start from the beginning: I put $5000 into the account and buy
some FundA and FundB. What kind of transaction are these, are they "buy" or
"add shares"? Secondly, if I later transfer/switch from one fund to the
other, are they "sell... buy" or "remove shares... add shares". (There
isn't a "switch" transaction type). Finally, if I sell some funds and
transfer the money out of the fund account, how do I do this? Use the
"sell" transaction, but how do I show that cash has left the account?
Likewise, I'm not given an option as to how to transfer cash into the
account (some of my investment accounts, like my self-directed rsp trading
account, always carries extra cash on top of the holdings to cover
transaction fees, etc).

Additionally, I see that there are these two types of transactions:
"transfer in" and "transfer out". I would have thought this could be used
for transferring cash in and out, but these transactions don't allow you to
enter a cash amount.

thanks
sluggo
