Try Money 2004. There will be other improvements.

However what you may want to try anyway is to set the opening
balance to zero in the account details. Then put a transaction
pre-dating the others to account for the initial balance.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I have to believe that it has nothing
to do with any entries. The problem requires a patch, or what the other
guy says, an upgrade to the latest version. If I enter $1000 as the
opening balance in "Details," and create a fictitious first month without
any transaction, it still tells me, when I balance, that my opening
balance is $998. No, I think it might be time to upgrade or switch to
Quicken. My bank wants me to switch, so I just might. Thanks again.

If you wish to start fresh and declare an account balanced, you can
mark all entries balanced. Select to show only unreconciled
transactions. Sort by date, and go to the oldest transaction.
Hold down Cntl+Shift+M and let auto-repeat work thru the
transactions until none are left showing. Then balance making the
starting and ending balance match the known balance. Choose the
balance date to be the day after your last transaction. This is
not the normal procedure. It starts you with an amnesty for former
balancing.

Thereafter, follow the normal procedure.

Default discrepancy in opening balance

I had the same problem, but I can't remember which
version of Money I had at the time. Unfortunately I
never figured it out. I've also had problems with Money
marking transactions as reconciled when they are not,
which really screws up your balance, usually long before
you are aware of the problem.

My solution...I upgraded to Money 2004 and hope they got
the bugs worked out.

Default discrepancy in opening balance

I have Money 99 on XP. Just a few days ago I had everything entered and
balanced without a hitch, but then a mistake was made, and I re-entered
some transactions for Sept. 2003, and tried re-balancing everything from
the beginning (April 2002). Here's the problem: everything balances out,
but the program insists that my opening balance is off by two dollars. Let
me just say that it's not. I've even tried entering in a fictitious
previous month (March 2002) with a bogus account adjustment, and even that,
it turns out, is off by two dollars. What the hell is going on?
Thanks in advance
Ricardo
