| I've tried changing the location, by adding an new folder and using that to open Money. That does not work. As for the password, I did use a password for the old file. When I am prompted to use my password, I would enter it, and that is when I get my message that the file is read only or it can not be found. I have tried to enter something diffent than my password, and then I am prompted again to enter my password. So I know that the information is there, it just will not allow me to restore my old files. - quote - > -----Original Message----- > In microsoft.public.money, Mike D wrote: > > Ok, I tried the last suggestion and still I am not able to > > restore my old files. This is not the common way, and it is not usually necessary. But especially if it is my only backup, I would consider the copy to hard disk step. The files will be named *d1.mbf, *d2.mbf, *d3.mbf and so on. In WE, double-click the *d1.mbf file. That should launch Money and start the restore. When Money prompts for the next diskette, click OK. You will have a chance to change the location or filename for where the restored data will go. It is especially good to browse to a location. The old location may not even exist. If you continue to get the password message, consider a newer version of Money to see if that solves it. Did you use a password on your file? |

| Ok, I tried the last suggestion and still I am not able to restore my old files. I have 2 back up copies, one on a floppy disk, and another on a CD. Are there any other suggestions. - quote - > -----Original Message----- > Okay, it sounds like the first part of the restoration is working. | Okay, it sounds like the first part of the restoration is working. When you open the backup file on the floppy, Windows starts to copy the data to the hard drive. So far that sounds right. Then you should get a dialogue asking you which money file you want to restore to. Is that what is happening? If so, make sure the path to the target file you are restoring to is correct. Something I might try is to create a new money file and place it in a new directory. Then when you do the restore from the floppy, choose this new *mny file as the target. If that doesn't work, perhaps the backup is corrupt? | Thanks for the information, but importing does not work. I have tried opening the file while in an active working file, and that does not work. I have tried it from the floppy disk and that does not work. Every time I try and open the file, the programs wants to restore to the harddrive, and once that is done, I then have to enter my password(so I know the information is there), and I will received a message stating that it can not find the file, or the file is in read only. Even after making sure the file is not in read only, I continue to receive the same message. - quote - > -----Original Message----- > You cannot directly "open up" Money backup files. | You cannot directly "open up" Money backup files. You need to have a working Money file (*mny) running on your hard drive and then import the backup files from the floppy. | My hard drive crash, but before it happened I saved all my files. I had Money 2000 on a floppy disc. I an not able to retore my information. I try and open the file, the program states that it needs to restore, and when it trys to open the the file, I receive an error message that it the file is read only. I have changed the attributes, but still it will not open with my information. What do I need to do to restore my money information?? |
