Its one of those mysteries, but not nearly so strange as the
problems fixed by dumping the browser cache. Remember structured
programming?

Jon, you shouldn't have to do it ever. But if it worked in this case--and
it's one method recommended in the FAQ link I posted--all the better.

Cal, why would you suppose that file repair would make a file that works
fine on one installation of M03 on one machine work differently--and
correctly--on another installation of M03?

There's some strange voodoo going on in that box sometimes...

Thanks, that worked. Do I have to do that all the
time...and what did I do exactly?

Open Money with Start-> Run and entering
"msmoney -s" without the quotes into the box.

version on both computers is Money 2003. I tried both the
backup file and the .mny file. Both resulted with the
outragous balance. The only difference is that my new
laptop is XP not 2000 like the desktop. Would that do it?

Probably neither. See http://www.bollar.org/msmoney/#Q104. What was the
prior version? Was a version upgrade involved here? Did you move the .MNY
file or use backup file(s)? If the latter, can you try the former?

Default Negative 1 trillion dollars

I just got a laptop and am trying to migrate my Money files
from the desktop. When I loaded Money 2003 and then tried
to open my file from the desktop, my account balances all
started off at -$1 trillion. All the information in the
accounts is correct but none of the account numbers were
transfered to the new computer. Is this an encryption
problem? or do I just need to reload.

Puzzled,
Jon
