| Well, then, your problem is a different problem. Go to File|Password Manager and remove the Passport. Why'd you set it up to use a Passport if you thought Passport was so evil??? I'm at a loss as to what relationship there is between requiring Passport authentication for your data file and "opening [your] computer to tons and tons of advertisements from 'Friends of Microsoft.'" These are utterly unrelated issues. Many people require Passport authentication for access to their Money file and receive no additional advertisements as a result. <anonymous[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:01ec01c3cf11$282ac0b0$a401280a[at]phx.gbl... - quote - > Your comment is not much help, MO 4 does not be have as > it "should" I have to skip the Passport nag everytime I > open MO4, something two or three times a day since > installing MO4 two months ago. > Is there another method for bypassing the Passport nag > screen; other than the "accepted" Microsoft method of > signing up for a Passport and thereby opening my computer > to tons and tons of advertisements from "Friends of > Microsoft" ?? |

| Your comment is not much help, MO 4 does not be have as it "should" I have to skip the Passport nag everytime I open MO4, something two or three times a day since installing MO4 two months ago. Is there another method for bypassing the Passport nag screen; other than the "accepted" Microsoft method of signing up for a Passport and thereby opening my computer to tons and tons of advertisements from "Friends of Microsoft" ?? - quote - > -----Original Message-----

I would characterize it as "feature drop" and "Passport spam creep" over which I have no voice. Microsoft at least listens to those guys. As I see it my best option to overcome my MO4 problems (and with your indications that Microsoft could put further limits on other MO4 features when MO5 publishes) is to research how I can go back to using MO3 and get some other program to track my stocks. - quote - > "Duane Gullixson" <anonymous[at]discussions.microsoft.comwrote in message > news:030101c3ce62$7960f4e0$a501280a[at]phx.gbl... > > Have used Money successfully for three or four years > > until: Money 2003 stopped downloading stock prices for > > those few stocks I owned and was tracking in Money. | You should only have to skip the Passport nag three times when starting Money with this data file. The number of times you connect to the Internet has nothing to do with it. Your conclusion as to why M03 stopped downloading quotes may be wrong. M03 started the practice of setting time limits for how long these services would be provided. If your M03 was Standard edition, you may well have overran that time limit. If you upgrade to M04 Standard, prepare to find a similar limit kick in about a year from now. You are not clear on what your problem with the user's manual (online help) is and whether or not they could put it in PDF is probably irrelevant. Some people have had issues with Money Help that have been overcome by deleting all Internet temporary files from the Internet Explorer Tools|Internet Options|General|Temporary Internet Files|Delete Files choice. You might try that. At any rate, and as you note, it may be moot on the subject of the Passport prompt. I'm not sure how feature creep in Money from version to version is reason to encourage virus and worm writers and other forms of malignant script kiddies. That seems like a rather odd wish. | Have used Money successfully for three or four years until: Money 2003 stopped downloading stock prices for those few stocks I owned and was tracking in Money. I decided to download free Money 2004 and try it to see if it was the program or me. Money 2004 did download stock prices. Conclusion: Microsoft uses separate URL'S for Money 2003 and Money 2004. Question: Would Money 2004 URL work with Money 2003 files? For fear of the answer I decided to bite the bullet and give poor Microsoft the $19.99 for the upgrade to 2004 just to get the stock prices. Now the problems: One: Money 2004 added a new screen to get everyone to sign up for a "Passport". "Sign In to Open Your Money File". Never had to do that before; but now I have to go through the hassle of clicking "Skip" (Passport sign-in) just to get to my Money file. Sure I found the instructions to go to "Password Manager" through "File" menu and followed the instructions but they do not work: Microsoft Money cannot cancel the Passport sign in no matter how many times I disconnect and reconnect to the internet. Two: I decided to see what the Money User Manual had to say about bypassing the Passport sign in screen. No such luck; even though I checked the appropriate box in the Internet options setup to enable scripting, Money User Manual will not open. Please don't tell me to disable my anti-virus and personal firewall; Microsoft COULD put the User Manual into a pfd format without much effort. I doubt that the Manual would fix the Passport screen hassle in any event. I guess my only advantage is that I am 65 years old and only have to put up with this hassle for a few more years. I do long for the good old days where my programs and files were self-contained in my computer and I could maintain my budget in relatively simple peace. It is almost enough to make a guy start encouraging the virus and worm generators. |
