Is 2004 Significantly Faster than 2002?

I only read this newsgroup once or twice a month.

About a 2 years ago I tried archiving due to crashes and slowness with
Money. FORTUNATELY I had saved an old copy of my file before archiving.

I really don't see a reason to ever archive. Far too many problems. I have
a file that goes back to Jan 1995 and in some cases with certain
investments, back to 1984. I would buy a new computer before ever
considering archiving, unless Microsoft figures out a better way to do it.

I appreciate your concern about archieving. It does
present issues. I was actually advised to do this when I
called MS Money support. It did seem so help a small
amount but not worth the issues that archiving creates.

I'm surprised that you archived to get performance based on reading this
newsgroup. I fell like collectively we've done you a disservice. The number
of cases this helps seem very small. The complications and drawbacks seem
very large. Many of us just say "NO" to archiving.

I have smaller computer and money 2003 & 2004 are pretty
fast.

I am running a Dell Precision 420 with dual P3 600 mhz
processors, 256K L2 Cache, 256 RAM, over a gigabite of
available disk space on each hard drive. OS= Windows 2000
PRO.

expense page to edit my budget takes several min. Closing
a modifed budget item takes several minutes. While not as
bad it slow at most other functions as well.

minimizing number of budget categories, payees, accounts,
archiveing everthing pre Jan 2003, turning everything off
including Passport log in. Those techniques improved
performance to the level discribed above.
