| Going against my own recommendation, I decided to try the Money 2004 trial version (since I had a couple of hours free). I saw two main differences from M2001, then uninstalled the M2004 trial version and will continue using M2001: 1) When balancing, M2004 doesn't show the amount "cleared so far", like M2001 does. I think this was brought up by someone before, and I have always found this very useful. 2) When downloading credit card transactions, they go right into the account register without first going to the "read online statement" window. Yes, M2004 provides "accept/deny" buttons, but I like being able to leave the downloaded transactions in this separate page so they are out of the register until I match and accept them. The matching in M2004 didn't seem to work so well either. Guess I'm not sure what I think of this change. Otherwise, I didn't see any big differences between M2001 and M2004. But I didn't spend that much time with it. The best price I could fine for M2004 is $20 from Best Buy, after a $40 rebate when buying TaxCut. Anyone find better? | Thanks for the recommendation. I decided (for now): 1) I'm too busy. 2) It ain't broke, so why fix it? 3) I haven't seen anything posted here that would indicate any advantages with 2004 over 2001. 4) One day, when Microsoft wills it, 2001 no longer be allowed to download stock quotes. Then there will be a clear "advantage" to upgrading. Dick Watson wrote: - quote - > There is a trial version of M04 Deluxe at http://www.microsoft.com/money. | There is a trial version of M04 Deluxe at http://www.microsoft.com/money. If you go this route, two pieces of advice: 1) Read and heed all of the information it provides about file upgrade and reversion to M01. Any transactions you enter in M04 will not get back in M01 any easy way ever. 2) If you install the trial and decide to upgrade, go buy the CD like normal folks. Do not upgrade online. Too many hassles downstream since you will never have a CD. | I've been pretty happy with 2001 standard, but am curious to learn what improvements there are in 2004 deluxe. I avoided the 2002 upgrade since the std package was being turned into a simple checkbook program. I like the features providing investment tracking, home refinance estimator, and tax estimator. These features seem relegated to the dlx package now. After looking at the feature set and reading some of the discussion here, I am not sure I gain anything by upgrading to 2004. 2004 standard is out of the question since it has no investment tracking, so I would consider only deluxe. In your experience, is there anything to gain in going from 2001 std to 2004 dlx? Thanks. Mike m-g-u-t-t-m-a-n-[at]-y-a-h-o-o-.-c-o-m |
