| Hi Bob Originally it was a converted quicken file, but I finally gave on that one and started a complete new file as of Jan 01, 2003 and that became corrupted in Mid February. Since that time I have tried every suggestion I was given, by the many knowledgeable people in this newsgroup, and had a case open for several months with Microsoft, and still have not been able to resolve the problem. Microsoft finally gave up on it, and believe me it wasn't from their lack of effort. The last two options they gave me, I didn't want and one was to start over again, and the other was to refund my money. I keep the program running with the corruption and keep many backups (which all after Feb 17th are corrupt), and restore as required. Sometimes it takes longer than other times to get it to work again, but so far I have always been able to finally get it to work again. At times I have even gone for over two weeks without a problem, but I always know that it is coming (the problems that is). I have 5 bank accounts, several credit accounts, around 15 Investments (Mostly retirement accounts), and a mortgage account. Nothing fancy and unusual and the only on-line activity I have within the account is updating the portfolio and I use MSN Bill Pay. Just tried to open it to count the accounts for this posting, but the corruption has returned, so I have to restore again. Corruption ........................a word that was seldom used by me until I started using this program. My system is a home built system using a PIV 2.53 GHz based on a Rambus motherboard. Anyway nothing unusual there either but for some reason Money will not run on this system. Any suggestions would be appreciated Bob "Bob Peel, MVP" <Bob_Peel[at]kiandra.freeserve.co.uk> wrote in message news:eqq#2lgTDHA.1916[at]TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... - quote - > Bob, can't help wondering if the corruption is somehow related to converting > from Quicken. | Hi Bob I totally agree with you, those that don't have problems usually don't read the newsgroups and there are many more satisfied users than non-satisfied. I am also sure that if I ever resolve the problem ( I used to say "when" I resolved the problem), and am sure that I will find my problems unique to my system. My complaints are that there are too many users that are having problems with Money, and I am sure it is unique to their system and Microsoft really needs to address the problem. There are many more users of Quicken than there is Money, and if you do a search through google on "corruption" problems you will see many more money users are having problems than those that are using Quicken. I have been using Quicken (every version) since version 2 and had never heard the word "corruption" until I switched to Money. I also use Quickbooks and have set up many local business with the software and had never heard of the word "corruption", and neither have the users at the business I am still associated with. I love ease of Money, and will continue working with it, but stability is a problem. None of my Quicken files nor 10-15 Quickbooks files I have on my system become corrupted........... I am not a supporter of "Intuit" at all which is why I changed to Money, I don't like the way their software is set up, but it never corrupts on MY systems. | I couldn't agree more about multiple backups in multiple forms. I preach that a lot here. The FAQ preaches that a lot. And your case that wasn't the diskette--I'd bet it wasn't. Most of these kinds of cases have to do with the tolerance of the floppy drives. They are relatively fragile mechanisms subject to wear and tear, built incredibly cheaply, and trying to hold track positional accuracy to very tight tolerances. If the machine that wrote it was slightly inside the track and the machine that was trying to read it was slightly outside the track, these kinds of things can occur. They can even occur on the same machine if the drive is worn or a little too cheap or just from day to day and cool to warm. | Dick It wasn't the diskette.........on some occasions it just took more than one attempt to force it to restore. I now keep multiple backups to prevent that problem, but what I am trying to relay to other users, is that if they only have the one backup, if they can't afford to start over, and the restore feature doesn't resolve their problem, I am telling them to not give up on it. Try double clicking the backup and if it fails the first time I suggest they try double clicking it again. It may or may not help the person, but it can't hurt them to try it. It did work for me, and I usually only speak from experience. As far as going back to Quicken (and I don't like it), I haven't quit using it, because of my lack of confidence in the stability of Money. I love the way money is set up and will give it one more try in 2004. If I still have the same difficulties with 2004, then I might have to go back to Quicken..............but I hope not. I am hoping that more people contact Microsoft about their corruption problems as that is what their 2nd tier tech support told me would have to happen before they would acknowledge a problem with corruption. There are many many features of Money, that I prefer over Quicken, and I also find Microsoft and excellent company to deal with in comparison to ALL other software manufacturers that I have had dealings with. I do however believe they have a serious problem with money, and hopefully they can resolve it. I am NOT a basher of Microsoft and have problems with those that are. If I ever decide that the problems with money are more than I can handle, I won't need someone else to tell me to switch, I will know. Again Dick I thank you for all your help and still respect your knowledge , Cal's knowledge, and Bonnie's knowledge of the product and hopefully continuing receiving ideas from you. | Oh, and "approximately 10 attempts ... before it restored" is, to me, a CLASSIC indication of diskette interchange compatibility problems that likely has NOTHING to do with Money file logical corruption. If you find Money so buggy, why don't you revert back to Quicken or almost anything else? I'd think that life was too short to keep beating your head against the pavement with software that's causing you so many problems. |

| In this case, it is entirely possible that the problem is a floppy disk interchange compatibility problem. The OP really should try to copy the files from the backup disk to the desktop without aid of Money to isolated what's going on. Bob, you and I both know that Money is a long ways from "the buggiest software ever marketed." And if you don't know it, you've lead a VERY sheltered computing life. | HI Greg Welcome to Microsoft Money's World of Corruption. Instead of trying to "Import" it.............what ever that means.........try double clicking the file itself. I have found that this will at times restore a file, that could not be restored using the "Restore" feature of money. Sometimes it takes more than one attempt (It took me approximately 10 attempts one time before it restored), but bottom line is that your file is probably corrupted. I suggest you open a case with Microsoft because they do not believe they have a "corruption" problem and until they accept the fact that this is the buggiest software ever marketed......they will do nothing to address let alone correct the problem. Good luck and let us know how you make out Bob "greg" <gregkey[at]yahoo.com> wrote in message news:046d01c34cd2$def77bb0$a601280a[at]phx.gbl... - quote - > I just reinstalled my Money on an XP machine and now when > trying to import my backup file it is "corrupted or not a > Money file".
