Nath--This is just what I am looking to do as well. I wish
to subcategorize my savings account as it builds up, just
like I subcategorize the checking account in the budget.
Can anyone share how this can be done?

So, Transfer the money to the savings account. The only issue is setting the
transaction in BP to occur in the months they occur, not annualized. You can
do this by scheduling the transaction as a scheduled bill--this also works
the cash flow forecast, no?

That is good advice but we do wish to put our yearly bills money into our
Saving Account - we earn 4.5% Interest Daily on the account so we want that
money put in there every month as well as our excess savings.

Is there anyway around the transfering and making the budget planner class
it as spent and not unspent budgetted money?

Thanks again.

Use the Budget Planner to make sure you spend within your means. Spend to
budget not to balance.

Use Cash Flow Forecast to predict how much money you will have in various
accounts going forward.

If you do these two things, then you need not resort to the subterfuge of
what Quicken calls subaccounts and Money does not provide. I used to refer
to what you want to do as "cookie jar accounting," but it upset some people,
so I don't use the term anymore.

There are many other techniques some people have used, you can read the
archives for this newsgroup at http://groups.google.com to find them.

Default Saving Budgeted Amount For yearly bills.

Hi all,

I have been using Money 2001 and could never figure this out properly and I
have now upgraded to Money 2003. It has frustrated me a lot, and I am
hoping that someone out there with better knowledge can help.

I have a MAIN account and a SAVINGS account. I have yearly bills (Car
Reg/Insurance etc) and I have entered them into my budget. Money says that
I should spend $x.xx per week on these items but as I am only billed yearly
I wish to transfer this money into my savings account so not to spend it.
Then when the bill comes and 12 months have past I will have enough in there
to pay the bill. The problem I am finding is that I don't SPEND the money
each week and only TRANSFER it so much budget says I have lots of money left
over to spend when really it is non-available funds. Is it possible to
document how much money is transferred from the budgeted amount into a
savings account and also keep the categories so I know there is $x.xx in the
Car Reg category, and $x.xx in the Car maintenance category?

I hope this makes sense, and that someone can lend a hand.

TIA

Nath.
