Default Re: How to account for mail back rebate in money

I setup an account called Rebates & Misc. Receivables. Whenever somebody
gives me a gift card for some store, I put it in here. When I buy stuff with
the gift card I record it here too. When I buy something that has a rebate,
I go to my checking account (or whatever I bought it with) and setup a split
transaction so part of the money comes from the rebate account.

This way, when I look at the rebate account I can easily see the grand total
of how much every store owes me. I flag transactions that I still have not
received the rebate for, and put notes in as to when they are due to come
back. I also keep two folders going for the paperwork... "Rebates Pending"
and "Rebates Received or Given Up On." This is where I keep all the
photocopies of the UPC, rebate form, and receipts.

feature which support tracking of mail back rebate
(whether i received or not and flags when its past due
after few weeks)

So schedule an Only Once deposit transaction. How hard could it be? Why
would Money need a new feature to do this?

Schedule an Only Once deposit for the usual 8 weeks out. Set its category to
reverse the original expense, if that's how you want to categorize it.

This is a good point (a feature request for the Money
team) --- I'd love be able to track my mail-in rebates
with MS Money; getting remonder/flags for rebates not yet
received would be very useful too.

Enter a similar cost entry [spend, increase, etc] but with a minus value.
This will give the net cost of the item you purchased.
