Default Re: MS Money 2000 vs 2004 compatibility

Money files are version-specific and are not backward compatible. I.e., an
M2K file has to be upgraded to the M04 format to be used by M04 to used by
M04. M04 can do this. Once upgraded, the file will no longer work in M2K.
And there is no Save As option to downgrade the format. There are some users
who have problems upgrading. You cannot upgrade across localizations. (E.g.,
no M2K US to M04 UK.)

One posting would have been fine, BTW.

Default RE: MS Money 2000 vs 2004 compatibility

I would download the Money 2004 demo and try to import your database from Money 200 before you buy. You should be able to use your money2000 file, but I had problems upgrading from 2000 to 2003. Basically, money2000 has the ability to corrupt its own files. It can still read them but a newer version of money cannot import it. I had Microsoft examine my 2000 .mny database and they said it was corrupted beyond repair. I had to export all my accounts in .pif format and import each one into Money 2003. It was a pain and I lost some data. Good luck!

Default MS Money 2000 vs 2004 compatibility

I am currently using MS Money 2000. If I install the new
version, MS Money 2004, will the new software be
compatible with my old Money 2000 file formats?

For example, can I run reports in Money 2004 using Money
2000 records and files?

Thanks.
