The primary thing to consider, I think, is why a closed a account
would have a non-zero value. The real close account has a zero
value. So its representation in Money should have a zero value. I
expect you failed to record the fact that you sold/transferred
shares or received money. That would be the best way to address
this.

But in specific answer to your question, from the Portfolio view,
SeeADifferentView-> CustomizeCurrentView-> Accounts lets you choose
which accounts are included in the view.

I am replying to my own post because I have discovered the
answer but still need help. The reason for the incorrect
total is that Money is showing the total for all
investment portfolios, both open and closed! This is
stupid because every time you try to delete a portfolio
Money opens a dialogue box persuading you it is far better
just to close the account so that is what I do. But my
instinct was originally to delete it just because I feared
problems which this is. Now, there should be a way under
Investments to show only open portfolios and accounts,
i.e. portfolios with open accounts only. But I see no way
to do this. Is there one? Thanks for sticking with this.

Default Money99 and Total Portfolio Value

In Money 99, the total prtfolio value in Holdings View is
not the same as the total of all total account values and
is different by a factor of about 25%! The total account
values are correct in all cases, i.e. the market value of
each individual account does add up to the total account
value for those accounts so it seems to be the total
portfolio value that is completely wonky. I can't find an
ansser to this when searching the newsgroup so any help
would be much appreciated as it feels uncomfortable not to
be able to rely on a total in the program.
