| I've seen that KB article before. I have already uninstalled/reinstalled both the service pack AND Money 2004 fully. Have performed a repair/reinstall of Windows XP once, as per instructions from DELL. Was also suggested I perform a System Restore, but as I have had the computer since all of Thursday, that doesn't give me a lot of options (and frankly it just seems like guessing). Have also tried installing Money to a different directory, but that had the same results. | Yes indeedy I do get an error message! The text of the error follows below. --------------------------------- [title bar] Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library --------------------------------- (X) Runtime Error! Program: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\System\msmoney.exe This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unsual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information. ----------------------------------- Haven't been able to figure anything out so far. Although the afore-mentioned export/import seems to have worked, the regular conversion would seem to be a better way of doing the job. | I've seen problems like this before where, for some people, it was fixed by going through an intermediate copy of Money, say Money 2002 and then onto 2004. Best way forward with this is to try to find the trial version of the country version you're using for 2002 or 2001 - however, that might be difficult. -- Glyn Simpson, Microsoft MVP - Money Check http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny for UK tips and fixes for MS Money. | OK Didn't know that file was there. However, I still get the same response. "No broken records in the original file." So the salvage utility says nothing is wrong, yet Money 2004 crashes. | I was afraid of having to do that. (sigh) I suspect there is something in my current Money 99 file that is broken, but I haven't had any luck (read zero) in fixing it. Money 99's built-in salvage, using the -s did nothing, and Money 2004's built-in salvage also has no effect. I REALLY didn't want to deal with import/export. I have info. going all the way back to 1999 when I first got that computer. What are the chances of MS fixing whatever is broken? | As usual, you have to solve it "the Microsoft way", which is the dumbest possible... this one worked... I have Money 99 (I tried with sample data and it worked): 1) Open your Money 04 and create ALL your accounts (checking, credit cards, investments, etc..) and leave them blank. Then exit Money 04 2) Open your Money 98, go to File-> Export and export EACH ONE of your accounts, generating a .QIF file 3) Close Money 98 and open Money 04 4) In your blank file, go to File-> Import, and import each .QIF file into the corresponding account you have previously created. Good luck, I will need it too with my real data... Ronaldo |

| I had the same problem, but I'm using Money99 in Portuguese, I thought it was a language conversion problem, since there's no Money2004 available in Portuguese. I tried contacting Microsoft in the US and still didn't get an answer. They gave me a number 1800-426-9400 works only weekdays 6am-5pm Pacific time. I will try next week but any additional help is welcome here. - quote - > -----Original Message----- > On WinXP home, Money2004 installs OK. But hangs during > file conversion from Money99. | I am having the same problem here. Unable to upgrade from Money 99 to Money 2004. I get a Runtime Error if the old .mny file is in My Documents folder. Otherwise, Money 2004 will run fine as a new install. I am running a Dell Dimension 8300. McAfee Anti-virus, ATI Radeon 9800XT. Spybot S&D installed. | On WinXP home, Money2004 installs OK. But hangs during file conversion from Money99. I was able to go in and set up as a new user - new accounts etc. I want to be able to use all my stored info. Is there a patch, fix, work around that will let me import the old file or Money99 too old? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Craig |
