| Maybe, but it's not clear what yet. Try double-clicking on the copied file on the new desktop from Windows Explorer. M04 should open the file, discover that it's an M99 file, and go through an upgrade dialog and process. Also, confirm that the file on the desktop is really the file you think it is and not a shortcut or some such by checking its properties. (R-click from Windows Explorer and select Properties.) You might also try dragging the file from the new system desktop back to the old system desktop and the double click on it on the old system desktop to make sure that it open in the old M99 system and really is the file you think it is. | Okay, I copied the money.mny file to the desktop of the new computer. Money 2004 was preinstalled, so I didn't have to install it. (Should I reinstall using the CD that came with the computer?) I went to Sample and that opened fine. I told the program to open the file on the desktop, and I got the opening page for the set up assistance. When I said that I wanted to just work on Money now, there were no accounts, etc. -- no sign of the file I thought I had opened. | Tough to say because despite all you wrote it's tough to tell what you are doing and what is actually happening. Use you network to copy your .MNY data file from the Win98SE/M99 machine to the new machine. Install M04 on the new machine. Navigate to the sample file in the Program Files\Microsoft Money directory and double-click on it to have M04 open it. Once the sample file is open, go to Money File|Open and navigate the file open dialog to the file you copied from the Win98SE/M99 system. Tell Money to open it. What happens? What messages do you receive? What happens then? | I want to transfer my Money file from a Money 1999 program running on a Windows 98SE machine to another machine in a home network that came with Money 2004 (from Dell). I have gone through opening the Money files, both on floppy and via the network. My Computer shows large files under Money 2004, but nothing comes up when I open the files within Money 2004. Am I missing a step or something? |
