If you enter it as an Equity Option, do the Sell To Open for 6 contracts. |

You can either enter a Short Sell for a stock you name "Call> called "Covered Option Writing" or "Overwriting" > investment transactions in Money 2003 Deluxe. > I purchase a stock, say Caterpillar Inc. (CAT). I sell > call options against that stock. I don't know what kind > of transaction to enter to represent the sale of this > call option. > An example of the transaction details I have are: > Description: Call Caterpillar Inc February 2003 47.500 > Expires 02/03 > Contract Premium: .325 > Price Per Contract: 32.500 > Current value: -195.00 > Trade Date: 1/22/03 > Contracts sold: -6 > Sales price: .600 > Sale proceeds: -359 > Unrealized gain/loss: 164 > How would I enter this investment transaction in Money > 2003 assuming I already have holdings for CAT? Caterpillar Inc February 2003 47.500" or you can do a Sell To Open an equity call you name "Call Caterpillar Inc February 2003 47.500". The disadvantage of equity option is a bug that prevents changing the symbol for that option or reusing the symbol for a later option. The advantage of the equity option choice is the more straight-forward dealing with expiration and exercise. If you define the call as a stock, expiration is entered as Cover Short for $0. Exercise is more complex. |

| I need some guidance on how to implement so- called "Covered Option Writing" or "Overwriting" investment transactions in Money 2003 Deluxe. I purchase a stock, say Caterpillar Inc. (CAT). I sell call options against that stock. I don't know what kind of transaction to enter to represent the sale of this call option. An example of the transaction details I have are: Description: Call Caterpillar Inc February 2003 47.500 Expires 02/03 Contract Premium: .325 Price Per Contract: 32.500 Current value: -195.00 Trade Date: 1/22/03 Contracts sold: -6 Sales price: .600 Sale proceeds: -359 Unrealized gain/loss: 164 How would I enter this investment transaction in Money 2003 assuming I already have holdings for CAT? |
