Yes, that is the desired effect. Thanks so much. Judy

If all you are doing is changing the category from an expense to a Transfer
for a bunch of transactions, this shouldn't change the balance of the source
account. It will change the balance of the account receiving all of these
transfers, but that's the desired effect, right?

Good luck and post back with any more questions.

Thanks for the info. Will try that. Will it screw up the
already balanced checking account? Wish I had understood
better at the time that I was just funneling the money to
another asset. Oh, well. Thanks. Judy

Probably not easily. Find/Replace will let you replace a category with an
income/expense category but doesn't seem to want to replace a category with
Transfer:Asset Account "special" category.

I'd probably go into the Categories & Payees|Categories screen for the
category you created and, one-by-one, change the transactions listed to
Transfer:Asset Account. It may take a while, but it shouldn't bee too bad.

Default Convert a category into an asset account

Hi, I have been writing checks to pay for materials for a
new building, and assigning those payments to various
subcategories of a main category "Our new Garage". Now I
realize I should have created an asset account for the new
building and transfered the funds from the checking
account to the asset account instead. I would like to know
if there is any way to convert the whole category into an
asset account showing the amounts I have paid as assets.
Thanks.
