This actually works pretty well on a wireless (802.11b) connection. Malcolm |

| I agree. But it's human nature to take the easiest route. If everyone searched the web for the answer, I'm sure this place would be empty and there would be no need for it. If you read the original reply from a new user's point of view, it would seem to be unrelated to the question. Your answer was a MUCH more helpful and a friendly response, and probably didn't take more than 1 minute of your time. That's the kind of answer an "MVP" should be giving, imho. | I don't think Cal has a quota, but if he does he's surely met it. I do think that many questions get posted here by people who are either too lazy or insufficiently aware to spend five or ten minutes searching already available resources to find hundreds of previous discussions of the exact same Q/A. Originally I was posting because I wanted to know if there was an alternate way of letting two computers control one MONEY file. It seems like there should be some type of options within money to allow multiple computers to update a person's MONEY file. I am NOT looking for any advanced access that allows two computers to simultaneously update the file... I know the obvious way would be to have the file networked and simply have whatever computer access that file... but this results in very slow performance (especially in a wireless environment). It would be great to be able have a file on you local machine, and then synchronize the file after you have done all your money work... the way it is now, there is a big lag between any transaction [or any action] I perform. I'll just deal with it. Thanks, Leo |

| I guess I'm not sure what help you are looking for and haven't been since your first posting. Money is no different than most other applications (e.g., Excel or Word or Access) when it comes to using data files in a networked environment. If you can help it find the file you want it to use, it will happily use it. Wait, it is different than Word or Excel in one regard: it does NOTHING to keep simultaneous access to the same data file from two or more machines on the network from mangling the data file beyond repair. I am searching google now and seen the question asked a lot and there seems to be no simple answer. I am gonna keep the file on a networked drive and just deal with the slowness. This feature should be submitted to the MS money team. Thanks, Leo |

Google Usenet Groups archive. http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search enter words that you think would be in relevant posts into the "all of the words" box. Enter microsoft.public.money into the newsgroup box. Consider selecting Sort By Date. |

| I want the ability to use one Money File with two (or more) computers. These computers are on the same network (no internet travel will be necessary). Is there something built into money to handle something like this? Or will I have to put the money file on a network drive (or similar) to be able to access it with both computers. I have a desktop and laptop in different parts of my home and sometimes I do my work on each different computer. So, if a 'Money' transaction comes up that I want to enter, I would like the ability to do it on either computer... Any suggestions, tips, etc? Thanks, Leo |
