| If you ever had Money installed before, the new version would STILL open the same last file the last version opened. I think you analysis of "a bug in the open file" module and what error handler is operative here is very simplistic. The operating system is killing the application because the application is trying to do something immoral like access memory that isn't its own. As noted previously, this is likely because of something much more complicated--some internal corruption of data that Money can't understand--than an error in file permissions. Find every .MNY file but the sample and move it somewhere else or rename it. Then start Money. Or open the sample file and choose File|New to create a new file. Then you'll be able to start Money every time, is my bet. | That trouble is it crashed the very first time I launched it, right after installation. Had not for your tip of going after the sample.mny, I would never get it to work. From the error message, I suspect there is a bug in the "open file" module. It definately can't handle any error in wrong file type, permission, etc. The error handler is also poorly written. It should not choose to _close_ the application once there is an error. - quote - > -----Original Message----- > Trying to "launch MS Money alone" tries to open the most recently opened > file. | Trying to "launch MS Money alone" tries to open the most recently opened file. Sounds like there is a problem with the files--not Money (per se--I'm not defending why it would have problems with one of its own files) or your installation of it. You might want to research the salv utility in the newsgroup, the MSKB, and the FAQ. <anonymous[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:042001c39cda$b43c4c40$a401280a[at]phx.gbl... - quote - > Those are ms money files with mny extensions. so: > 1) Trying to launch MS Money alone, or > 2) open files other than sample.mny > will trigger an error message. > Upon debug under Visual C++ 6.0, it says > "Unhandled Exception in msmoney.exe(OFDUTIL.DLL): > 0xC0000005 Access Violation". > Open sample.mny is fine. |

| Those are ms money files with mny extensions. so: 1) Trying to launch MS Money alone, or 2) open files other than sample.mny will trigger an error message. Upon debug under Visual C++ 6.0, it says "Unhandled Exception in msmoney.exe(OFDUTIL.DLL): 0xC0000005 Access Violation". Open sample.mny is fine. - quote - > -----Original Message----- > Or maybe I misunderstood. | Thanks for the trick. I used the sample files at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money and it works this time. Then I tried to re-launch it again by clicking Money icon. The error message disappeared. Really weird. Am I supposed to know this? - quote - > -----Original Message----- > Your credit card files are almost certainly NOT "MS Money" files. | Or maybe I misunderstood. What do you mean when you say "some ms money files for [your] credit card." | Your credit card files are almost certainly NOT "MS Money" files. They may be QIF or OFC/OFX, and there could well be some problem with the file not with Money. As noted, you should try opening the sample file unless you are happier being disappointed. This will help clarify the prior point. | Thanks for the reply. I tried to open it by clicking some ms money files for my credit card, but it is still the same error message. I've already filed an error report last night, hoping they could spot something and fix it ... This is really disappointing. - quote - > -----Original Message----- > I use that combo on two machines with zero problems. > Have you tried opening the sample data file installed with the application > by double clicking on it from Windows Explorer? |

| I use that combo on two machines with zero problems. Have you tried opening the sample data file installed with the application by double clicking on it from Windows Explorer? | I purchased MS 2004 deluxe and installed it under my Windows XP pro. Each time I tried to launch Money it says Money encounters some error and has to be shutdown. Judging from the error message it appears to be a memory access problem. I tried to get some online support but no luck. The program doesn't even let me get to the "help" page to read id number, which is required for the online support. Called free phone support but after long wait they transfered me to game tips ( I have to pay long distance charge). This is really a joke and I am very angry at myself to pay for a useless CD. No offense to people using it but have to say the product is a piece of crap! Some kind guy out there who knew a solution please help me out. |
