There have been some indications that the quote problem may be related to
ADRs (basically non-US companies traded on US exchanges, like Nestle,
Volkswagon, Nintendo, etc). You could go into your investment list and see
if there are any such companies listed. Try removing the symbols from those
that are currently using a 5 character long symbol ending in Y. Move it to
the Comment field in Investment Details, so that you still have it around.
Then see if you can get an update for the remaining symbols.

You might want to do a general clean-up while you're at it. i.e. check each
symbol on moneycentral to confirm that it is recognized and change/remove
them as appropriate. For example, change AOL to TWX.

These are easy and safe, although they are not normally associated
with your symptoms: In Internet Explorer delete your browser
temporary files with Tools-> InternetOptions-> DeleteFiles. Then do
File-> RepairMoneyFile-> QuickFileRepair for good measure.

Did you install to the same folder that your old install was in?
Consider re-installing Money to a different folder.

If you still cannot download quotes, make sure you are up to date on
your critical updates. Running a software firewall? Uninstall your
firewall, and then try your quotes.

Still not working? Running a router? Take the router out of line and
access the internet without using the router. Try your quotes.

Let me start from the beginning. On or about 10/17/2003, I prepared
to download my newly purchased copy of Money 2004 Deluxe. I was
currently using Money 2002 Deluxe. Before installing Money 2004
Deluxe, I updated all my accounts in Money 2002 Deluxe. All of my
stock prices updated, as they had for the past several years. I then
backed-up all my files, restarted my computer, and downloaded Money
2004 Deluxe. Subsequently, I have been unable to "Update Prices
Onine...". Everything else seems to be just fine.

Here's how my problem occurs:

Under Common Tasks on the Portfolio page, I open "Update Prices", then
click "Update Prices Online...". The call progresses and is
completed, but the prices are not updated. The Call Summary reads:

- Your last call encountered an error: 10/24/2003 7:18 AM
- Money was unable to connect to the online quotes server. Check
your Internet connection and try the operation again.

Of course, I've tried it numerous times over several days.

I read Knowledge Base Article - 174673. From Run I can access
http://www.microsoft.com and http://moneycentral.msn.com .

I can also access http://207.46.189.43 from Run.

However, both http://moneycentral.msn.com and http://207.46.189.43
take me to http://moneycentral.msn.com/home.asp the MSN Money Home
page. I don't know if that is the same as the "online quotes server".

As a side note, when I first encountered this problem and Knowledge
Base Article - 174673. I couldn't access http://moneycentral.msn.com
from Run. It sent me to "The Page Can Not Be Displayed", but that has
not occurred in the last few days.

I checked my version of Internet Explorer. I have Version
6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633. Update Versions: SP1; Q822925;
Q330994; Q828750.

It seems to me, that the source of my problem must be with Money 2004
Deluxe. My logic being that buying and downloading it is the only
variable. I had no problems with my previous versions of Money.
Every time I have to manuelly enter stock prices, I think that my only
solution my be to buy and try Quicken.

Can't do it. Read Knowledge Base Article 174673, and I
can't access http://moneycentral.msn.com from the run
command.

I've been using MS Money for years, have updated the
sofware at least every two years, and have never had a
problem downloading stock prices. Most recently, I was
using Money Deluxe 2002 and had no problems. My problem
began occurring when I bought and installed Money 2004
Deluxe. I have the same computer and use the same ISP.

Any ideas?
