Default Re: Quicken 401k to Money 401k

Verify that the transfer to the 401k is on the before tax tab of your
scheduled (and entered) paychecks. Tax Estimator takes the sum of everything
on the before tax tab of the paycheck off the income from the category of
the first line of the wages tab. This is a non-obvious effect, but if you
run the math you will find that the total the Tax Estimator reports for that
"first line" category is NOT the total of that category but the total of
that category less the Before Taxes tab total. This is a devious way to do
it and show it and I think it sucks, but it does work once you understand
what's going on.

The reports are a little different. Here's what I do:

I have two income categories Wages & Salary:Gross Taxable and Wages &
Salaryeferred Compensation. I set the Deferred Compensation category to
not be included on W-2 related tax reports. Then on the wages tab, I break
the amounts out separately. Then on the Before Taxes tab, I do the transfer
as noted above.

Default Quicken 401k to Money 401k

Just replaced my Quicken with Money 2004. Everything converted well.
Only thing I can't figure out: I have an account "My 401k" ... in
Quicken.. part of my paycheck deductions include a transfer to the
401k account. I set the account in Q to be included on tax reports.
Money however, shows the account but no income deduction in tax
manager or tax estimator. How do I tell Money that the 401k funds
should come off my income? Thanks for any help.
