| It's been quite a while since I've tried this. I did just try this. I added "newegg.com" as a "New" payee on the Categories & Payees | Payees page. It picked up all my previous transactions. I'm wondering if we were talking about adding a Payee to the same list. I think I hijacked your thread by answering a different--the wrong--question. I was talking about the general Categories & Payees | Payees list from which the drop-down list is somehow derived. (How this is done I don't know. I think date of most recent use has something to do with this.) If the payee you want to show up in the drop-down list is already in the Categories & Payees | Payees list, then yes, IIRC, it is possible to create a duplicate. (Why Money allows this is a mystery to me.) Since you can type out a payee's name without regard to the drop-down list and, if you spell it the same, Money will normalize the payee to existing transactions with the same payee, worrying about what shows in the drop-down is of somewhat limited value. Occasionally I enter a transaction for a Payee I'm sure is already in there somewhere and it won't auto-complete--indicating I've used a different variation on Payee name. In these cases I always go do a Find to find how I spelled it last time. See this thread http://groups.google.com/group/micro...dc0347ce3ab51b for more from the last time I went down this path. | Hi Dick Thanks for the reply. | If you add the same name it should pick up the existing transactions entered for that same name. Payees from downloaded transactions may be an exception to this. | Hi Dick Many thanks for that. Now to add the existing ones to the drop down list, are you suggesting that I manually add them to the payee list & move existing transactions from the existing payee to the new payee? That seems to be a long winded process. Is there not an easier way? I see your point that some may want only a few payees in the drop down list but I would like all payees (around 200). Thanks -- Tony "Dick Watson" wrote: - quote - > There is a setting that controls Money confirming addition of new Payees to > the explicit list of Payees. | There is a setting that controls Money confirming addition of new Payees to the explicit list of Payees. It's something like Tools|Settings|Account settings (global)|Transaction confirmation options|Confirm new payees. This won't change all the implicit Payees to being in the explicit list. To get them there, add the name already used to the Payees list from Categories & Payees|Payees. Most people want this list shorter rather than longer. I've got something like 1,300 Payees in my data. I have <100 in the explicit list. | It appears that only those payees that have been entered in the Payee setup section appears in the drop down list. All mine ave been entered as I have entered a transaction. There must be a setting that enables all new payees entered as you go to appear in the drop down list. If not how can I make all the existing payees apear in the list. Thanks -- Tony "TonyL" wrote: - quote - > My payees are not appearing in my drop down list when I enter transactons. | My payees are not appearing in my drop down list when I enter transactons. I only have 5 payees in drop down list whereas I should have dozens. 3 of the payees in the drop down list have been deleted (merged to another payee). The auotfill is working ok. Why is this? Thanks -- Tony |
