What I suspect you have done is to create a second version, with a> manually. new name, of the first security. What you should have done is to enter a Buy of the *same* security originally. What you could do at this point is to go to the details of your second version, and click CombineWith to combine it with the first one -- the one with the symbol. Be prepared to File-> Restore a backup if you don't like the result. - quote - > "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: > > In microsoft.public.money, BocaBoy wrote: > > > > You can choose the security, but as soon as you try and enter the ticker > > > symbol, you get an error that it already exists. | You can choose the security, but as soon as you try and enter the ticker symbol, you get an error that it already exists. Of course it does, in another brokerage account. The only way to have the price updated is to do it manually. I'm a bit baffled at the limitation. I understand that occasionally there are inadvertently duplicate accounts in Money, but if you've been around for awhile and worked at several jobs, there is a good chance that you have more than one brokerage account with some of the same investments. You should be able to automate the update process with having the ticker symbol twice. For the record, Support confirms this limitation. You can't have the same ticker symbol in two separate accounts. It can only appear and be updated in one. |

You got a message that a symbol is already in use? Create a> me create the account more than once at the same brokerage. > The same is true > if you own the same stock in two separate accounts. Thereafter choose it from the drop-down list. |

| Kevin, it doesn't have anything to do with the naming convention. I've tried what you suggested, but Money won't create two accounts from the same brokerage. As you can see from my response to Steve in this same string, you can't have the same stock ticker in two separate accounts either. Seems stupid to me, but I guess the Money development team is too stubborn to change it. |

| Steve, this doesn't have anything to do with the brokerage. Money won't let me create the account more than once at the same brokerage. The same is true if you own the same stock in two separate accounts. You can only enter the stock once, in one account. When you go to try and enter the ticker the second time, Money returns an error that it already exists. |

| File > New > New Account > follow the prompts Make sure your naming each account with a seperate name. For example Broker-name (me alone), Broker-name (wife) and Broker-name (joint) when your setting them up. -Kevin "BocaBoy" <BocaBoy[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:A4D49D0B-1ACE-4617-BA58-70886B173F86[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > I have three accounts at one broker, all under separate account numbers. > How > can I force Money to open multiple accounts from the same brokerage? > Me alone > Wife alone > Joint > Each time I try to do this, it gives me an error message that the account > already exists. > Any help would be appreciated. > Thanks! |

Call the IT support people at your brokerage. They've without doubt> numbers. I use Ameriprise. When I first started there, I had to have them enable each person's group of accounts separately for Money access. -- Steve Bell New Life Home Improvement Arlington, TX USA |
