| The budget groups are just something you have to deal with. OTOH, I don't understand why, within the budget groups, you are not seeing Categories and Subcategories. I have the, in mine and I don't recall having done anything special to make it so. Further, looking about just now, I don't find any setting that might affect this. Note that the relationship between Categories and Budget Groups CAN be changed from the Category's settings page. You can even change the names associated with the Budget Groups. R-click on a name in the Advanced Budget budget editor. | Dick, the Advanced Budget is definitely an improvement. I'm still not sure that I've found all the right settings. I still get the Category followed by [all] rather than actually seeing the subcategories and setting their values. The best I can manage is to use the groups as categories and the categories as sub categories. So Utilities is my group and Gas, Electric etc. are the categories. But it's a bit of a pain because I don't really want something like Rent to be a Group by itself, but if I put it in a group, say Housing Exp. then Utilities would need to go in the same group and then I couldn't budget for gas, electric, water etc. Back where we started. Anyway, I'll figure out a way to make this work. Thanks for your help. On the other "Dick Watson" wrote: - quote - > No, that isn't exactly what I was saying. | No, that isn't exactly what I was saying. What I was saying was that the S&S Budget is dumbed down and can't do what you want. There is another budget model, the Advanced Budget, that allows category/subcategory granularity and has its own share of issues besides. See http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=186 for some information about how to find the Advanced Budget. I don't generally offer this as an answer to unspecific questions since it causes more problems for many users than it solves. | I'm trying to set a budget amount for a subcategory in Money Plus Deluxe, and not getting anywhere. The subcategory exists in the Register, but when I go to the Budget I can't give the subcategory a value, just the Category. Eg. I can give the Category:Car a value of 500 but not the subcategories: Gas & Repairs $100 & $400. All on see on the budget page is "Car: [all]" I am using the Savings and Spending Budget. Somebody please help!!! |
