| They only support the banks that support the downloads directly. Compare the length of the supported FIs lists. Microsoft needs to use Yodlee to "fake" access to data that MANY FIs do not make available directly. Yodlee does what's known as screen scraping. They pretend to be you and pretend to login to the FIs website as you. Then they reformat the data they "see" in their "browser" into a form usable by Money. Go to the MS list. Any FIs listed as "direct * *via third party services" is getting done this way. MANY FIs refuse to offer direct downloads for any number of reasons, not the least of which is you don't get to see the ads on their web sites if you just use Money to go get your data. | So how do open source programs like grisby do it? I never understood why they need Yodlee. I thought I was just directly connecting into my 401k, credit card company and downloading data? It's like they need to make $$$$ with some BS way. | Because one of Microsoft's paths to download to Money is via a service called Yodlee which charges Microsoft some amount of real money for you to download. Microsoft can spend money on something forever and give it away forever. Microsoft is interested in making a profit. | Well, I guess there is always open source. I heard Grisby is pretty good. It doesn't looks like MS cared about Money anyway, from the last versions, and quality of the releases. How can Girsy download for free, and MS needs a subscription? How is this possible? | I would guess that if there is no replacement upgrade, they will either extend the time for free or via paid subscription (most likely the latter). For example, I believe that when the UK version M2005 expired without a replacement upgrade, MS just allowed the downloading of data to continue. -- Peace, BobJ "Chris Cowles" <spam_magnet[at]remove-me-bellsouth.net> wrote in message news:34239240-178A-46A1-818B-76EB79A31B52[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > I believe Microsoft built in the capacity to extend a subscription for > downloading data (ie, pay more when it expires), without necessarily > updating the program itself. | I believe Microsoft built in the capacity to extend a subscription for downloading data (ie, pay more when it expires), without necessarily updating the program itself. | Yup. And "don't know" was the best answer. But you might want to read more postings for the nuance. "Anthony Lisanti" <ajlisanti[at]optonline.net> wrote in message news f29j417oqsqot1c6mqh3muci7oli3islr[at]4ax.com...- quote - > I'm sure this has been asked 1,000 times already. |

| Is this version of Money the last version? What will we do when this version expires? I'm sure this has been asked 1,000 times already. |
