| I did the upgrade earlier this year and I did have to uninstall Deluxe but the settings are apparently in your Money file because it kept all of them. I would make sure I had a backup though just in case. "Wilmer" <Wilmer[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:F4C49C0C-8864-45B1-BE46-BD09536D0B37[at]microsoft.com... Hello, I have recently started a small business and want to manage the finances using Money Plus Home & Small Business. I have been using Plus Deluxe for over a year now and don't want to risk losing the data or settings associated with that file. I have downloaded the trial for H&SB, but it tells me I must uninstall the currently installed version first. I am concerned that this will wipe out any settings related to the program itself, Bill Insights, etc. I was hoping for more of an upgrade option. Nevertheless, does my current Money backup file contain, in addition to the data, the program settings? Also, if anyone has done something similar to this, is there anything I should be aware of when moving from Plus Deluxe to H&SB? Thanks, Wilmer |

I tested it, but there wasn't anything that encouraged me to upgrade. I usually upgrade every other year. Problems: * Bank deposits don't automatically match with your checking account. The workaround is to receive payments into a dummy cash pass-through account, then do a matching transfer to the checking account. The transfer will match properly. * Deposits that include more than one customer are tricky. I receive payment from each customer individually into my pass-through account, then do a single transfer to match the total deposit. * Invoices only show the total. They won't show what the customer owes if he has made a partial payment. * Customer statements show every invoice the customer has ever had. You can't specify a date range. * Customer statements won't show payments, only invoices. * Money shows on the outstanding customer balance on the screen, but won't print it on a customer statement. * If you like the canned invoices, you'll be OK. The invoice designer sucks. Big time. It just doesn't work. At all. When you choose an item to move on the page, you can't "unchoose" it when you get it where you want it. If you know a little HTML, you can edit the files yourself, but they're cryptically named and hard to track down. The designer got worse with successive releases of Money, and it wasn't improved in the Plus version. My only real complaints are the problems with customer statements and the invoice editor. -- Steve Bell New Life Home Improvement Arlington, TX |

Most program settings are in your file. There are exceptions: in> using Money Plus Home & Small Business. Tools-> Settings-> OnlineServiceSetting, the Account Settings say "(global)", and that is what I think is meant by "global"-- settings that are not part of the .mny file. Most significant I think is ShowStandardizedPayeeNamesForWhichANameIsNotFound is a global (inter-file) setting. It should normally be ticked, IMHO. Now I have not tested this theory out myself to see if these settings are indeed carried across files. |
