Default RE: Vesting in accounts

This comes up from time to time and nobody has ever come up with any decent
methods to deal with it. Personally when this was an issue for me (fully
vested now) I just mentally adjusted the number. For purposes of net worth
reporting, you could also create a liability account that has a balance that
reflects the unvested amount. But you'd have to hand adjust this amount. If
you started the value of the account at $0 and then entered one transaction
with the total unvested amount, they you could just adjust the amount and
date of this one transaction from time to time.

I'm not sure how vesting relates to your comment about having to enter hand
transactions ("deposits") to adjust as the value of the investments changes
daily.

I would also think that factoring a 401(k) into daily or even monthly checks
of Net Worth right about now would be too depressing to contemplate much less
do.

Default Vesting in accounts

Is there any way to track the total value of an account at a 'percentage
vested'? My employer provides me with an investment account for retirement,
but my access to that money vests over time (e.g., 20% per year). I would
like to be able to make the account only show up as 60% of its current value
- e.g., in how it contributes to net worth.

It takes a lot of effort to accomplish this manually by adding cash deposits
since the value of the investments in the account change daily...
