Any advise? was an IT executive for 20 years before I retired to start my handyman business. In that time, I supported many PalmPilots, which have similar syncronization problems. That, along with database experience, tells me the general kinds of problems that can occur. Go ahead and make a copy of your Money database, do to it what you want, and sync it. You might be happy, you might not. Good luck. :-) -- Steve Bell New Life Home Improvement Arlington, TX |

| Steve, thanks, and I see your point which makes sense specifically when looking at trends. I wanted to post my question to see if I was missing out on a better way to manage my file. On the Pocket Pc issue; that might be a tough one to find. Looks like you might have some experience dealing with Pocket Pcs and Money syncing. Any advise? thanks again! The downside of starting over each year is that you can't do any type> each year instead of having an 8 year, 16,000-plus transacition file > like I do be more practical and less prone to having issues? > If I went that way, importing Categories and Payee list from the > previous year Money file; would that be practical? > Btw, the only issue I have is when I sync the whole file to my Pocket > Pc (Cash Organizer2008) . . many times it will corrupt the Desktop > File at which point I have to do a restore. of long-term analysis or planning. Many Money features don't really work well until they have several years' worth of data to look at. Think of budgeting: An average of January expenses for one year is worthless. The upside is very small. There's a good chance that your Pocket PC application will still crash with a smaller data set. The problem might be particular types of transactions instead of just the quantity of transactions. If you want to test, make a copy of your Money data file, delete all transactions older than one year, and play around. Recommendation: Don't try to use archiving. It doesn't do anything useful. -- Steve Bell New Life Home Improvement Arlington, TX |

| Would keeping smaller file sizes such as starting a new Money file each year instead of having an 8 year, 16,000-plus transacition file like I do be more practical and less prone to having issues? If I went that way, importing Categories and Payee list from the previous year Money file; would that be practical? Btw, the only issue I have is when I sync the whole file to my Pocket Pc (Cash Organizer2008) . . many times it will corrupt the Desktop File at which point I have to do a restore. Thanks Peter |
