Thanks for your suggestion about going into safe mode to check out backup.
Moneyh will not open in safe mode. However, in checking some other files, I
found that one of the msvcr80.dll files was labeled with Zone Alarm. I
uninstalled it and have not had a problem with money backup since. Thanks for
the suggestions.

What I don't know is if there is a possibility that a problem
version of msvcr80.dll is getting involved. I don't really
understand the DLL stuff, but I wonder if
regsvr32 msvcr80.dll
of the proper version of msvcr80.dll would help.

I would also try booting into safe mode with networking behind a NAT
router, and running Money. That should cause default drivers to be
used. It should also cause your software firewall to not be running,
I think. If things work for you there, I would think about maybe
your security software is a problem.

Tried your suggestions. I opened the sample file fine but as with the other
files, if I choose to back up, the progress bar runs fine until about the
time the program should close and I get the Money has encountered aq problem
and will close. Defaulting module is msvcr80.dll. I ran the directory of the
files and there are six in various folders: system 32, WinSxS. I have run the
repair file tool in both the quick mode and level 2 standard mode. Still get
the error message.

Also, running this command in a command window might inspire you:
dir c:\msvcr80.dll /s

You could try using sample.mny and see if that has the problem. If
not, I would try to make a repaired version of my file with
File-> RepairMoneyFile-> StandardFileRepair level 2.

If you are using Vista, there could be an additional consideration.

Default Money 2007 backup problem

When I close Money 2007 and try to backup, I get message "Money has
encountered a problem and will close." Faulting module is msvcr80.dll. If I
postpone backup, it closes with no error. I have uninstalled and reinstalled
the program, upgraded to Money Plus, tried backing up to different folders
and locations, run file repair utilities. I believe this started just about
the time I installed .NET Framework. However, I installed and uninstalled
several programs along about that same time. Otherwise, program works fine
and I have no problems with any other program.
