| For those who are using downloaded transactions in lieu of balancing to statements, this is probably significant. Same result, but I guess with the matching, there is a check thatthe matched pieces sum up to the downloaded amount, - quote - > "Cal Learner-- MVP" <via_newsgroup[at]please.tnx> wrote in message > news:mieff4dt6ululhk16ftd10ucka0mrq5l1t[at]4ax.com... > > You have probably already voided (or deleted) the downloaded > > combined transaction by now and just gone with the two > > manually-entered transactions. | Is there a functional advantage to this way over the other? Microsoft Money Plus Version 17.0 Here is how you can match a downloaded deposit to more than one transaction that you have entered into your register, even if one is a Paycheck: First, you have to be using an Advanced Register and you have to make sure that you get the downloaded combined transaction shows up as one of the TransactionsToRead. It will show up in the register as BOLD. This will not work if you are using Money Essentials, if the account is using the Essentials register, if you have selected to have downloads automatically accepted, or if you have already gone through and accepted the deposit. Have the two separate deposits entered manually in the register. Now highlight the bank deposit, which is really the sum of the others, and click ChangE. Select the lower radio button which allows you to manually match the download to the items in the register. Select *both* of the manual deposits. There will be a summary that appears once you have selected a second item, showing how many manual transactions you are matching, what the sum of the matched items equals, how much of the download amount is still unaccounted for, and what the final sum should be. When you click done, both the manual entries are now bolded, and when you accept one, the other is automatically accepted. You may see a warning - which is just a notice telling you that accepting any one of the matches will actually do an accept on all the matches at the same time. The one download is correctly associated with both entries in the register, and it will act as if the bank had really downloaded each one separately. This works best if the bank is using OFX - you need to re-do the multiple match if you download using QIF and include the same transaction in the next download. The same ability to match multiple register entries also works for multiple withdrawals, or even a combination of withdrawals and deposits. This is something that Money can do directly. You have probably already voided (or deleted) the downloaded combined transaction by now and just gone with the two manually-entered transactions. This technique described here should work for the future. |

| Dick is correct. I have the same thing when I would deposit the monthly check received on a load (also a split). The only other methods I have seen are: 1) at the bank make several deposits 2) manually enter the deposits into a temporary (Cash Account) and then transfer the total amount to the checking account. | This is a problem that stems directly from depending on downloaded transaction data. It stems from two things: 1) Money cannot "split" a split and the Paycheck is already a split. and 2) Money's model is fundamentally that a transaction has one Payee and a whole bunch of items on one deposit at the bank is still a whole bunch of Payees. Hence, Money treats it best as a whole bunch of transactions. My recommendation is to put the Paycheck in by hand and put the other deposit in by hand and, when the downloaded transaction gets there, void it. Others who spend a lot of effort trying to make downloaded transaction data jam into Money may have alternate recommendations. I just skip the downloaded transaction data at the get go and avoid all of these issues. "Michael" wrote: - quote - > My wife deposits two checks and one is her paycheck.
