| Correct. And it's been that way since Money first supported Investment Accounts and Investments and this goes back well more than a decade. IF the savings is invested in an Investment like, say, a Money Market mutual fund, THEN this performance will show up in Portfolio Manager. But "just cash" savings are not typically setup this way and, as you note, aren't recognized as investment vehicles by Portfolio Manager, et al. If you really want to, you can fake it out by creating a virtual money market fund Investment and a virtual Investment Account to hold those Investments just to do this. But this may cause havoc with downloaded transaction data and may also not be worth the trouble. In general, the performance of this kind of savings account is pretty easy to figure out and is frequently quoted on bank statements. | Hello Dick, Thanks - I'll do that when I report to get my Interest, if I leave Interest defined in the standard way. However the only way it seems to get to see interest in the Portfolio Manager screens is to set Interest up as an 'other investment' and log it as that new Investment type in the account register (transactions) as 'other income'. Then when money is drawing its charts etc it picks it p as a valid investment. I'm really surprised MS Money works in the way it does - it means entire savings accounts, which are real investments don't get shown in Portfolio Manager otherwise. | I don't think you are looking in the right place. I use category Investment Income : Interest for these cash account transactions. I report out that category when looking for tax information. Note that Investment Activities like Dividend Received have an underlying Income Category like Investment Income : Interest. Now if you are downloading, depending of the broker, distributions for an investment (especially interest/dividends form a MMF) can come in as a cash deposit. You can either leave it that way for simplicity, or you can delete/void that deposit, and enter the transaction into the Investment Transactions register to better track the reality. Your choice. |

| Hi, I've setup MS Money to track a number of investments, which it does very well. However, it doesn't seem to class account interest in my cash accounts as investemnets. Could anyone please advise how I get (or define the interest correctly in the cash accounts) MS money to show interest in the portfolio manger of other investment reports. Likewise, in Share Investment accounts, I've been adding my interest in the associated cash accounts, but this does not seem to be actively tracked (cash is in portfolio mgr). Do you have to setup Interest like other investment for it to show up in the reports? |
