| You might also want to be sure to use Advanced Reports and Advanced Register. There is also a setting to force the Category/Subcategory to be in separate pull-downs. Customize the reports. For example, on the "Transactions by> having to select the specific category, from there I was able to add the > sub-categories that I wanted. | Thanks for the suggestions Cal and Steve, I appreciate the help. I ended up having to select the specific category, from there I was able to add the sub-categories that I wanted. However, they still show up as seperate categories and not all under the same umbrella when I do my reports. I appreciate the help I will keep working on it. Thanks Robert |

That's what subcategories are for. Category "Automobile", subcategory> is a way to assign more than one category to my purchases. example: I > want to track my automobile expenses but want a more specific break > down. If you don't show the subcategories, the amounts are totalled to the category level. Most reports will show you both the total and the subtotal. -- Steve Bell New Life Home Improvement Arlington, TX |

You can have a category of Auto, and subcategories such as Fuel,> to assign more than one category to my purchases. example: I want to track my > automobile expenses but want a more specific break down. You can make the sub-category more prominent, with it's own drop-down list area, if you set Tools-> Settings-> Categories-> UseTheDualCategoryDropdownControl. You can always change it back if you prefer it the other way. |

| Good evening, I am using Money Plus Deluxe. I am wondering if there is a way to assign more than one category to my purchases. example: I want to track my automobile expenses but want a more specific break down. I want the cost values attributed to automobile but would like to break it down further in categories such as gas, maintenance, etc. I tried splitting it but then the full cost values do not get attributed to both categories ie (automobile and gas). I realize this maybe impossible but does anyone have any suggestions. thanks I appreciate it. Robert |
