Install Money 2005 by right-clicking Setup.exe from your CD and choosing RunAsAdministrator. Find the sample.mny file in your install folder. That may be "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2005". Copy sample.mny file to your Documents folder in Vista. Right-click the Money start icon and select RunAsAdministrator. Click File-> Open and browse to that sample.mny file. Money 2005 will do an update. Close Money. Reboot the computer. Then open Money and check that Help-> About... says you then have version 14.0.*.1105. Make sure your .mny and .mbf files are in your Documents folder. Then you should be able to File-> Open or Restore your existing files. Also change your backup path from "C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\" to "C:\Users\username\Documents\" |

| I had windows xp on my last computer, when it quit on me. I have all the backup from where it was pulled off by a programmer. At the time he loaned me a computer since it was tax season, and he converted everthing to money 2005. I have purchased a new computer with vista and what it comes with installed on it, and there is no money program at all. Is there a way to download money for the checking account without having to purchase it? Or pay 20 bucks every year? Or would it be possible to wipe everything out and go back to windows xp if I have the old backup files from before it went down? I know I would loose a couple months, but it may be easier than starting over. |
