Thank you for your reply!

The following suggestion you reply posted with is the one that worked:

To reduce the number of existing payees, go to
Banking-> Account Tools-> Categories&Payees-> Payees ; select a
payee and use Move to combine payees. This is better in most cases
than Delete. Advanced Find&Replace may also be more useful in
consolidating large numbers of similar payees.

This option enabled me to combine the banks downloaded names with the
standard names that I created.

Thank you again for shinning through!

Unfortunately no, but there is a way to reduce addition of new
payees that differ from existing payees only by numbers or
punctuation.

Tools-> Settings-> AccountSettings(global)-> ConfirmNewPayees
option to not add a payee to the list that you are using one time
only, but it does not work for downloaded payees. :-(

To reduce the number of existing payees, go to
Banking-> AccountTools-> Categories&Payees-> Payees ; select a
payee and use Move to combine payees. This is better in most cases
than Delete. Advanced Find&Replace may also be more useful in
consolidating large numbers of similar payees.

Tools-> Options/Settings-> OnlineServices-> ReplacePayeeNames...
enables replacement of payees with names you have used if they
differ only by numbers or punctuation.

Banking-> AccountTools-> Categories&Payees-> Payees-> PreferredPayeeNames
shows how downloaded names are translated into Payees.

Default Money 2006 Standard Settings/Preferences

Greetings All.

Could anyone tell me where the setting is in Microsoft Money 2006 Standard
is to stop it from putting the banks downloaded names in the list of payees?

When entering a transaction in the "Pay To" list that drops down, it seems
to be showing every downloaded entry name from the bank when I thought that
I have my preferences set to use the user names for transactions. This is
very annoying as every time lately that I have been downloading transactions
and making new entries into the ledger it seems that the payee list gets
longer and longer!

This is what I am using:

Microsoft Money 2006 Standard OEM Edition
Version 15.0.50.513

Thank you.
