Find the sample.mny file in your install folder. That may be
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2005". Copy sample.mny file to
your Documents folder in Vista. Right-click the Money start icon
and select RunAsAdministrator. Click File-> Open and browse to that
sample.mny file. Money 2005 will do an update. Close Money.
Reboot the computer. Then open Money and check that Help-> About...
says you then have version 14.0.*.1105.

Make sure your .mny and .mbf files are in your Documents folder.
Then you should be able to File-> Open or Restore your existing
files.

Default Money 2005

I bought a new computer with MS Vista, and installed Microsoft Money 2005,
which I had used on my old computer so far (XP). I am now not able to open my
Money file, or the back-up file, which are both located on an external hard
drive.
I can sign into Money, then the program tells me that it will create a copy
ofmy file, then convert it to Money 2005. When I want to continue, a window
appears that tells me that Money can not locate my file or cannot open it,
possibly because it is a read-only file (which it is not) or I do not have
permission to change it (I am signed on as an administrator, and I use the
correct password) or because the disk drive is write protected (the disk
drive is a regular external hard drive).
How can I open my file???
