1. If you got Money Essentials, you got the wrong version. MEss doesn't> cannot get them to move from pending to hard post. do much more than an electronic checkbook register. 2. Right-click the transaction in the register. You'll get a context menu with *lots* of options. One of them is "Mark As...". From the submenu, you can choose from Unreconciled, Cleared, and Reconciled. Unreconciled means you've entered the transaction. Cleared means it was download from the FI and/or downloaded and matched with an existing manually-entered transaction. Reconciled means you went through the "Balance this account" wizard. Keyboard shortcut: <Shift> +<click> toggles a transaction between Unreconciled and Reconciled. -- Steve Bell New Life Home Improvement Arlington, TX |

| Are you using Money Essentials (MEss)? Don't. Use Deluxe or higher. You will find MEss much to constraining. Cash would be a good type for a suspense account too (I call mine "In Transit"). Also, I recommend you tick Tools-> Settings-> AccountSettings-> DisplayAllAccountsInTheAdvancedRegister. At the bottom of the Categories list, under SPECIAL, see Transfer. Also note the use of the Split pseudo-category to be able to break up a single transaction into more than one piece. ------------------------------------- Here is an example of how you would do a credit card with downloading: When you first process the first transaction of the credit card payment, set the category as a transfer to the other ( credit card or bank account), or use the equivalent "SPECIAL Credit Card Payment" category. When you process the second transaction,Money should match it. Be careful to not just Accept if Money did not find the match on its own for some reason. Click Change and match it to the transfer you already made if Money did not match it for you. I would consider this the classic of the ways I like. Note that for this you would *not* use the Money "EXPENSE Credit Card Payment". I would Delete that category. For existing transactions that are already accepted, convert one to a transfer and Void/Delete the other. |

| Using My Money trial version. I am an accountant. I am aware this software was written for non-accountants. I cannot figure out how to set up an account for Cash On Hand or Petty Cash. It seems that if the account is not linked to an institution its not very viable. I can add transactions, but I cannot get them to move from pending to hard post. Am I missing something here or is this software missing something here? How does one track spending that does not flow through an instituion? |
