Try the same solution:Find the sample.mny file in your install folder. That may be "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2005". Copy sample.mny file to your Documents folder in Vista. Right-click the Money start icon and select RunAsAdministrator. Click File-> Open and browse to that sample.mny file. Money 2005 will do an update. Close Money. Reboot the computer. Then open Money and check that Help-> About... says you then have version 14.0.*.1105. If using XP, do a similar thing except you can start Money as an Administrator and don't have to right-click the Money start icon and select RunAsAdministrator. Make sure your .mny and .mbf files are in your Documents folder. Then you should be able to File-> Open or Restore your existing files. - quote - > Danny Perry > "Rob Brooks" wrote: > > This is my last resort before scrapping the program. | This is my last resort before scrapping the program. I have used Microsoft Money since around 2000. I have just had a new PC built and I am at the stage where I am pulling my hair out with restoring my back up file having spent around 4 or 5 hours solid. This palavour has happened before when I have had any changes like new hard drives etc, eventually after some cursing and swearing it eventually works. I get the following message: Money can't locate c\program files\microsoft money 2005\money etc, or cannot open it possibly because it is a read only file etc etc. Why can't you simply drag and drop the file into the program it would make life a lot easier. Does anyone have any logical way around restoring a back up file to a newly created money folder on a new PC. Does anyone know an easier software package that can easily be transfered from one PC to another. I find the Microsoft Money program very tediouslwhen it goes wrong like this. It's fine when it's working, but such a pain at times like this. Has anyone else had trouble? Thanks Rob |
