This gives a warning, but works fine. I use it all the time. The only caveat I can think of would be for accounts that are auto- reconciled. |

| What version/edition? This is always helpful information to have when answering questions in this newsgroup. I'll assume you are NOT using Money Essentials (MEss). It can't do this. For that matter, I'm not sure Essential Register mode can do what I'm about to describe, either. In all other cases (all Money prior to 2005, Advanced Register and NOT MEss for 2005 and beyond), you can "Split" a transaction. This allows individual elements to categorized separately. When entering a transaction, you use the "Special Category" Split. There are also buttons on the register or transaction form entry for Split. There is a complication, however, in the case of your specific example. that complication is this: Money (caveats above) has a predefined variant of Split called Paycheck. It allows you to collect all of the various elements of your gross pay (Wages Income, various Taxes Expense, before and after tax Expenses like Insurance and so forth). Using a Paycheck is very handy to collect all of that kind of information. But you can't have a Paycheck transaction split with, say, some cash you got from a friend reimbursing you for lunch in one deposit. (At least not directly that way.) | Kay, Set up a new account within Money and set its type to "Cash" (i.e. not a bank account). This cash account is where you will create the $100 paycheck transaction. This account would also include a transaction corresponding to the $100 cash you have. The deposit to your checking (bank) account then becomes a $200 transfer from the cash account. OK? | Hello. I would like to ask if I can divide amount from one transaction. Let's say that I deposited total of $200 into checking account at bank. The $100 is cash, the other $100 is my paper paycheck. On MS Money screen, it shows "$200" as a single transaction. Can I make this into two transaction, so I can categorize them separately? Thanks. |
