I've got year's of data in my old file. OK. I am sorry to hear that you renamed rather than copied the file. I hope that does not lead to a loss of data. Maybe there is a new *.m15 file now, or maybe hope.mny.m15 was not changed during the attempted conversion. While you are thinking of it, make a *copy* of any recent *.mbf files you have onto different media, such as a USB flash drive. If you don't get things going with this first track, you will want to let Money Plus restore your most- or second-most-recent backup. I think you probably have filename extensions hidden in Windows Explorer. That is one of the first default things I turn off on a Windows installation. This command in a command window would make a copy: copy xyz.m15 hope2.mny What I now would do is to try to make a repaired version of your file before conversion. You could try a File-> RepairMoneyFile-> StandardFileRepair level 2 on that hope2.mny file. To get to that menu, you could open any file first. Alternatively run salv.exe, that is located in the Money install folder, typically "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money Plus\MNYCoreFiles" Running this command *with* the quotes would typically do it: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money Plus\MNYCoreFiles\salv.exe" You will be asked to browse to the file to be read in, and to pick a filename for the repaired version. If the repair does not succeed, restore a backup. - quote - > "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: > > In microsoft.public.money, Poke stuck in Kuwait wrote: > > > > I was able to open it using a new "dummy" file with a password. | You might need to display extensions to be able to rename correctly, go to Folder Options and on the view tab uncheck [Hide file extensions for known file types]. Folder Options can be found in the Control panel or just open My Documents then on it's Tools menu choose Folder Options. | I found the name.m15 file. When I renamed it hope.mny it still retained the m15 extension. That is hope.mny.m15. I've also let Money run all night and it still doesn't respond. It will have moments where it runs but not for any long periods of time. I've also tried removing the program and installing it again. | I was able to open it using a new "dummy" file with a password. I tried it again with my converted from Money 2006 data file and it didn't respond again. | I'll try that. However, I'm not using a WinLiveID/Passport password. It's just a local password to keep others from my money file. | You might have some kind of problem with your data file. You could try creating a new file, putting the same type of password on it, and see what happens. Alternately, you are using a WinLiveID/Passport password? Can Money connect to the sign in servers? (Firewall, etc. issues could be involved here.)
