I appreciate all the feedback. I will see if I can return it and get the
Deluxe version...

Almost everybody. I suspect the Money team thinks it's great because it
reduces most support cases to this one--how come it won't upgrade my Money
data file. There are probably some users that have never used anything else
that think it's great. Can't say as I recall any of them making an
appearance here in the newsgroup, but there must be some of them out there.

M$ stopped selling Money Standard and at the same time it began selling
Money Essentials. This has caused a lot of confusion. Money Standard was a
basic functional Money Program without a few of the frills that were in
Deluxe; while Money Essentials is a totally stripped down (and in everyone's
opinion, useless program). The update route from Money Standard 200X is
Money Plus Deluxe. That's just the way it is.

Return Essentials and get Deluxe. Note in the description of
Essentials it says it cannot read files from any other versions.

Default Converting Money 2005 data file to Essentials 2008

I have what I consider an installation issue with Money Essentials 2008 and
am very surprised that I could not find a way to contact Microsoft direct on
this.

One could argue whether my issue is installation or not, but I submit that
installation means "getting up and running", which includes both loading the
program *and* getting old data converted to run with it. It is the latter
step that does not seem to exist.

I have a data file from Money 2005. I am moving to Vista, and the Vista
Compatibility Center says I cannot run Money 2005 but must upgrade. So I
purchased Money Essentials 2008, loaded the program, then looked for some way
to convert my (large) data file and could not find it. I am hoping that
someone can tell me how to migrate the data...?
