Yes. The improvements in Money Plus are unobtrusive.> noticed any difference in my Money set-up and format. Everything looks the > same as before and it picked up my old data file and converted it as well > without any effort on my part, except for confirmation. I take all these as > a good sign. The lead feature is the Insights, which will optionally watch for and display upcoming Bills, spending, and cash flow info. It is done using a single tray icon. It is completely optional and not pushy. But there are quiet things that are significant. There is an improved statement download. You are able to select to have direct direct FI statements downloaded in the background, even if there is no LiveID on the file. That is totally optional. On Tools-> InternetUpdates-> CustomizeUpdates there is a checkbox to control that. Remember to click OK in the far lower right if you change the box. If the box is set, mnybbsvc.exe, the background banking service, is run. If you open a Money file where the checkbox is cleared, mnybbsvc.exe ends. Also nice is that the interaction with USB flash drives for backup is fixed up well. It can write to drives with more than 2 GB of space remaining, and the setting for the number of scheduled backups to retain is honored. Some things feel faster moving between windows, such as Account-List <-> Portfolio, but I cannot be sure it is not my imagination. |

| Thank you Bob & Cal for your guidance! The installation was swift and without any problem. I did not have to un-install the previous version. Installation offered me to do that and I accepted. Surprisingly, aside from a change of title to "Money Plus", I have not noticed any difference in my Money set-up and format. Everything looks the same as before and it picked up my old data file and converted it as well without any effort on my part, except for confirmation. I take all these as a good sign. I hope this will be helpful to those who plan to go through such an upgrade. Thanks again! It can, but if you really wanted to, you could have both, but have> on line. Have already downloaded it with no problem. > My questions before proceeding with installation: > Do I have to un-install 2006 first ? > Or will the new version upgrade the old one? one open at a time: - quote - > Could I install 2008 in a separate directory and keep the old one in order
Pay attention during install to have Money *not* install the earlier> to try it out with my existing data file? version. It will use a different directory by default. - quote - > Any other advise regarding pre-installation steps will be appreciated.
If you want to keep both, make a copy of your Money file named maybe> Thanks in advance! MA08.mny. Let Money Plus convert that one. Money 2006 will open the file that it last opened by default. Oddly, uninstalling Money 2006 later may uninstall Money Plus too. I am not sure. Read the warning during uninstall. Keep a copy of your Money Plus install file and the activation key, in case you need to reinstall later or you want to install onto a second computer later. Burn it onto a CD and don't lose it. Maybe put a copy with your other backups in the safe deposit box. |

| Once 2008 has upgraded your .mny file it cannot be read by 2006. Unless you want to go through the hassle of keeping two parallel .mny files and separate updating the rest of your points are somewhat moot! You don't update the existing 2006 program with 2008, it completely replaces 2006. To be honest I can't remember if 2008 removes 2006 as part of the install process. My gut reaction would be to uninstall 2006 first. -- Regards Bob Peel, Microsoft MVP - Money For unofficial FAQs see http://money.mvps.org/ or http://umpmfaq.info/ I do not respond to any emails that I have not specifically asked for. | Hello All: Since my Money 2006 is due to expire, I just purchased the 2008 plus premium on line. Have already downloaded it with no problem. My questions before proceeding with installation: Do I have to un-install 2006 first ? Or will the new version upgrade the old one? Could I install 2008 in a separate directory and keep the old one in order to try it out with my existing data file? Any other advise regarding pre-installation steps will be appreciated. Thanks in advance! |
