I don't know what they are considering.

I do know they have invested very little in the product for five or six
years now and this year they aren't even doing an annual release. They've
said "We are moving off of an annual release cycle for Microsoft Money Plus
(no Money 2009 version in the fall), with future release dates TBD." They
said similar things when they released the M05 variant for the UK. There
hasn't been another Money release in the UK since. They've also discontinued
packaging product for offline (retail store) sales. All new sales are now
download-only.

Make of all of this what you will. I'm not hearing a robust plan for the
future. But I may just be pessimistic. They could come out with a completely
re-written and vastly superior "Beyond Money" about this time next year. The
last time they did this kind of a major refactoring was M98. Seems like
about time for them to do it again. Look at how often Office and Windows get
huge rewrites with thousands of developers working on the product worldwide.
If they are putting as much into the next Money upgrade as they put into,
say, Microsoft Office Picture Manager for Office 2007, imagine how cool this
next release will be.

Perhaps you've seen positive signs we haven't. What would lead them to
discontinue Money--if it were to happen, that is? Lack of a profitable
business case to continue it seems like one possibility. They aren't in
business to lose money.

I am glad you started with the trial. Uninstall the Essentials
trial, and install the Deluxe trial.

Money Essentials is the stripped down version, and the trial behaves
the same as the purchased copy in that regard.

Yes. Money Plus will be continued for a while, rather than having
the annual change.

Default Money 2006 expiring; what to upgrade to?

Well, my Money 2006 online features are expiring soon. Today I decided to
download the 60 day trial of Money Essentials. It seems to have all the
features I need. After installing, it won't open (or upgrade) my 2006 money
file.

"Money Essentials is unable to open files from others versions of Money."

Is the a limitations of the trial (although it says the trial is not
crippled in anyway)?

What do I need to purchase to continue using my money file?

I see Essentials only comes with 1-yr online features. Plus Deluxe has
2-yr. I don't see a trial of Plus Deluxe.

PS. Doesn't MS usually release a new version in the Sept time frame. Any
word on that?

Thanks
Greg
